After a positive chlamydia test, I took 1mg of azithromycin as prescribed. A culture retest after exactly a week and came back positive. Why is that?

Wait a little: According to the cdc the correct dose of Azithromycin for chlamydia is 1 gram (or Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for one week). Most chlamydia tests detect bacterial dna, which may take 3 or 4 weeks to clear after the infection is treated. If you took your medicine and did not get reinfected, repeat the chlamydia test in a month. ...Read more

I know the treatment is 1g of azythromycin but I was prescribed the z pack can I just take 4 pills as a single dosage or do I have to do the 6days?

Follow directions!: Follow your prescribing doctor's directions; they are designed to treat your infection in the best way possible, and there are many. Failure to follow directions may result in failure of treatment, resistant bacteria, and more problems (and cost). Don't decide on this yourself. If any doubt, ask your doctor! ...Read more

My partner and I had unprotected sex the day after taking azithromycin does it effect treatment if it takes 7 days for treatment to kick in?

Please clarify: I am not sure exactly what your question is. Does this have to do with you taking birth control pills at the same time you are taking antibiotics? If so, there can be an interaction which can cause your birth control pills to be less effective. I recommend the use of back up birth control if you are taking antibiotics. ...Read more

Azithromycin in europe (im there only currently)-is sumamed. Is it same pill, safe for treat of pity. Rosea too? To me is said to take 500mg 1x1 for 3 days

Azithromycin in europe (im there only currently)-is sumamed. Is it same pill, safe for treat of pity. Rosea too? To me is said to take 500mg 1x1 for 3 days

Safe, not effective: Sumamed=zithromax/azithromycin. Zithromax is a relatively safe medication to take, even in pregnancy, and 500mg daily x3 is the 3-day-pack dosage. It is relatively safe medicine to use, but not effective for pityriasis rosea--the true cause is not known but believed to be viral. Thus antibiotic such as zithromax has no role in the treatment. Consult doc if you have trouble. Good luck. ...Read more

How do I get this horrible drug azithromycin out of my system took one 2 dose of 250mg yesterdsy at 4pm and I feel worse than from just being sick?

Your body: Will slowly metabolize (liver) and excrete it (in your feces and urine) over time. Though realize it has a long half life so it will take time. But also realize you may also be feeling worse due to your underlying illness and the progression may happen to have just coincided with starting the azithromycin. I wouldn't hesitate to contact your doctor if you continue to feel worse. Best of luck ...Read more
