Alprazolam is a short acting benzodiazepine, it does not last long in the system. So when used regularly with multiple doses to treat anxiety, it is associated with inter-dose withdrawal, tolerance and a resulting increase level of baseline anxiety. Benzos: Atarax is an antihistamine, not my first choice for anxiety, it will make you tired though. Xanax is a benzodiazepine, which is effective for a panic attack, but long term use can lead to dependence/tolerance and possible abuse, while not effectively treating the underlying anxiety disorder. SSRIs like paxil (paroxetine) and zoloft are much better for long term treatment of anxiety, as well as psychotherapy. ...Read more
Alcohol and sedative: I would wait 24 hours to be completely safe since xanax (alprazolam) can be deadly if mixed with or without alcohol. Atarax is a very sedating antihistamine which can have very serious reactions as well. You really should ask your pharmacist as well as your primary doctor who prescribed since doses also make a difference. ...Read more

Use with care: Atarax is an antihistamine used to treat a variety is symptoms, including anxiety. What to do if I have been prescribed alprazolam and atarax (hydroxyzine). is it ok to get out of bed before I wake up naturally?
Don't understand?: Xanax (alprazolam) is a very short acting drug, and if you are taking it at night, it likely would be at very low levels by morning. Atarax is a somewhat sedating antihistamine, but if you are taking that at night, there is not much likelihood of morning residual effects. If it is bothering you, I would talk with your doctor about reducing the dose. Don't know what you mean by 'naturally? - not using alarm? ...Read more
Most likely not: Anytime you take more of a drug than you are prescribed, it is considered an overdose. I doubt that you were prescribed 5 Atarax (hydroxyzine) together to be takenwith 2 alprazolam. Those 2 meds are both very sedating and together could possibly make you sleep for a long time, but I don't think it would hurt you if that was all you took. However if you drank alcohol or added other meds to that, it be dangerous! ...Read more
