How do I stop a 4 years old child from sucking her thumb. Is there any medicine out there?

How do I stop a 4 years old child from sucking her thumb. Is there any medicine out there?

Bedtime: I try to narrow the thumb sucking to nap or bedtime. I tell the child it is okay to suck the thumb in bed. By focusing on one time per day, the child feels there is still hope of not getting in trouble for the habit. Eventually, the nighttime habit will lessen too. Medicines, bandages and yelling do not seem to work well. ...Read more

My boyfriend is 29 years old I found him sucking his thumb is that normal or gay ? He was doing it when he was sleep

My boyfriend is 29 years old I found him sucking his thumb is that normal or gay ? He was doing it when he was sleep

Adult thumb sucking: It is not homosexual. If it happens while he is asleep then there is nothing he can do about it. It probably reflects some of the same needs as you find in childhood thumb-sucking -- a way to calm yourself or feel emotionally more secure. If it has not been enough to make his teeth stick out, it is probably not harmful. I would just tell him without judging that you observed this & ask if he knew. ...Read more

How do I stop a 4 year old child from sucking her thumb?

How do I stop a 4 year old child from sucking her thumb?

Options.: See when she does it. Is it when she feels scared, tired or bored? Address the feeling. Also you may start by setting expectations on where she is allowed to do it, thus reducing the "thumb time", other options are having her look in a mirror when she does it, to see if she likes what she sees. And lastly you can try some commercially available nail polishes that taste icky. Don´t overwhelm her. ...Read more

How do you stop a 4 year old child from sucking her thumb?

How do you stop a 4 year old child from sucking her thumb?

Thumb sucking: There is nothing that "works" other than very punitive measures which are not recommended. One can try "+" reinforcement with small rewards when the child is observed to be not thumbsucking. I would consult your dentist and ask their advice about the need for an appliance fit in the upper palatal area if significant orthodontic effects are bieng caused by the behavior. ...Read more

If its a stress releaver, your efforts may make it worse. Hypnosis might be another option, again one needs to want change to do it. ...Read more

Boyfriend suck his thumb at 29 years old years old when sleep I no that's not normal at all is that a psychological problem? Or mental ?

Harmless habits: Most human beings discover their own way of calming themselves and relaxing. As long as the habit is not harmful, even odd and unusual habits do not imply psychological or mental disorder. In this case, thumb sucking should not be harmful, unless you or other bed-mates are bothered by it. If you are going to abandon him because of this, then i suppose your boyfriend may want to try to stop. ...Read more
