Heartbeat?: I'm assuming you are talking about the baby's heartbeat? If so, there is no cause for concern. The baby's heartbeat can be quite variable in early pregnancy and this isn't a cause to worry. Best wishes! ...Read more

My cervix was 4cm at 20 weeks and water bag broke at 21 weeks cervix was 2cm. Is it incompetent cervix? can we go full term with incompetent cervix?

My cervix was 4cm at 20 weeks and water bag broke at 21 weeks cervix was 2cm. Is it incompetent cervix? can we go full term with incompetent cervix?

Highly suggestive: Your presentation is suggestive of a loss of cervical integrity. The regression back to 2cm occurred because the bag of water broke. PPROM at 21weeks in the face of cervical dilatation, unfortunately, carries a poor prognosis. However, subsequent pregnancies can be have very favorable outcomes when treated with progesterone and/or cerclage and serial cervical ultrasounds. ...Read more

My triplet now 9 months they can't set down alone is it normal (they delivered at 30 weeks ) ?

Maybe: All developmental milestones for the first yr to yr and a half should be adjusted for babies prematurity. Your average term born will prop sit for several seconds at 6 months and get to sitting and be stable by 9. Since your babies came more than 2 months early i would not expect them to be stable in sitting yet. ...Read more

HCG levels: In pregnancy HCG is expected to approx. Double every 48 hours. Abnormal rise could be due to several factors such as abnormal pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy. It is important to also check and see if all tests were performed at the same lab. Ectopic pregnancy possibility should always be considered as it can lead to severe complications. What does 14.15 nmol/L progesterone mean? Taken on d22. Last 3 cycles 25 days long. Age 30

Ovulation: If your doctor ordered a Progesterone test on day 22 then likely they were looking for signs of ovulation. For the last 4 hours i've been getting frequent long lasting painless braxton hicks contractions. I'm 30 weeks pregnant. They last for about 15 mins. Is this labor?

Needs evaluation : Generally we advised patients to go to labor and delivery to be evaluated if their contractions are five minutes apart for at least an hour. At 30 weeks you will need to be evaluated to see if this is preterm labor or braxton hicks. ...Read more

Causes of small, slightly raised, skin colored growths around penis, that formed suddenly & cleared within 3 weeks? Could warts clear that quickly?

3 previous c sections pregnant again scan at 6 week showed lower myometrium layer to be 19mm is this to thin?

3 previous c sections pregnant again scan at 6 week showed lower myometrium layer to be 19mm is this to thin?

No, That is not: A typical measurement to take and I am unsure of any data related to outcomes in measuring this, . That being sain it's almost 2 cm which is almost an inch thick. You are likely not going to see thinning in this area until later, as the uterus stretches. I am not familiar with monitoring thickness of this ares, if it gets thin, which it will, what is done differently? Nothing. Do not worry. ...Read more

37 week pregnant.Cervical length is normal. Found loose cord around neck at time of scan. Placenta is anterior in uterus. Maturity grade 1. Suggest?

Normal findings: All of the findings you list are normal. I would continue expectant management and plan on a normal vaginal delivery. A cord around the neck is a common finding and usually doesn't create a problem during labor. (I'm assuming the baby's head is down) Best wishes! ...Read more

Echo 2 mos ago, results = LA dilated, mild functional mr and trivial functional tr.holter result sinus rhythm, PVC seen 32.7%. Now discomfort jawline?

See your doctor: To assess whether the pain in your jaw line is related to your heart you will need a stress test. This is especially the case if that jaw discomfit occurs with exertion. The echo cardio gram will not necessarily give you information about your arteries, especially if these new symptoms. Good luck to you! ...Read more

36 weeks dr said i'm 3 CM & 80% effaced, at 37 wk appt different dr checked me, said loose 3 CM & 75% effaced. Can you reverse in progress with effacing?

Dont fret: Remember, one cm is only the width of your fingernail. Checking a cervix is a blind procedure and every person will sense the distance a little differently. I always tell my patients that as long as different examiners are within one cm or effacement within 25 percent, it is probably same exam result. ...Read more

35.1 weeks preg, 3rd baby.3cm/80% effaced. Constant cramps/contracrions. How quick till active labor does it usually take? Does that start at 4cm?

Question not clear: If effaced 80% with constant cramps i hope you are in a hospital under treatment. At 35.1wks, your chance of having a baby in the ICU on oxygen or a ventilator is >50%. Labor can be stopped to give your baby enough extra time to be ready for delivery. If you are not at a hospital, call now or go to the hospital. ...Read more

37wks&2days 80% effaced & 3-4cm dilated first baby -2 to -1 station sched. Induction @ 39 weeks what can I do to go in active labor want to go naturally?

Patience: Let mother nature do her work. Your body and your baby know when it is the right time to go into labor. There are more and more studies every day about more problems in 'early term babies' - those born from 37-39 weeks. You are not even due yet. I know you are very uncomfortable and want to meet your new baby, but the baby likes it where he or she is right now, so let them stay where they are! ...Read more

I am 38 weeks pregonant and having discharge and lost my plug I am dialted to a 3 and 80% effaced should I go to l&d?

Call your OB: Almost all OB docs have an answering service. If no regular contractions and the discharge isn't gushes of water or trickles of water, you probably don't need to go in as being 3cm/80% and losing mucus plug doesn't necessarily equal labor. Call your docs office to see if he/she has an answering service. If no service call labor and delivery and ask them how to reach your provider. ...Read more

Dilation: Per the classic work of Dr. Friedman, the cervix should dilate 1.2-1.5 cm per hour. More recently, that labor progression has been evaluated as being too aggressive, and that many women may take longer to dilate without having an abnormal labor. ...Read more
