I exercise 50-90 minutes a day, eat clean food, never exceed 1600 calories and I cannot stop gaining weight. (174 cm; 64 kg). It is slow, but constant?
Something amiss: Based on your age, gender, weight and height your basal metabolic rate is around 1400 cal/day: thats what you need just to live without moving at all! Odds are you burn more than 200 cal just moving about, without including your exercise. So either something awry with you metabolism and/or your estimated caloric intake. Ok that i cut out sweet potatoes and bread or was i wrong doing so? I'm tryin to lose weight, usually eat vegs, white meat, beans, 1 egg a day.
Wise to reduce bread: Most experts would agree that avoiding bread helps people to lose weight- it is wise to minimize starches, esp. Those that raise blood sugar as much as bread does. However, sweet potatoes have many useful nutrients and don't raise blood sugar nearly as much as bread or white potatoes, so i see no need to cut them out- see http://www.Whfoods.Com/genpage.Php?Tname=foodspice&dbid=64 for more info. ...Read more

I have high cholesterol (genetic, i'm healthy 25yr old), should I be careful of my egg consumption? I'm vegetarian & enjoy the source of protein
I would not worry: Vegetarianism is a moral choice and I'm glad you are allowing yourself eggs -- this is important in keeping you healthy. If your hypercholesterolemia is familial (as mine is), you'll probably be on meds by the time it matters, and in the meantime I'd rather you simply stay fit than try a dietary modificaiton that will probably not matter much and make your life less easy & enjoyable. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Keep going : The current weight is not provided, but if not at ideal body weight, further weight will likely help. Weight and diet are two pieces of the puzzle. Environmental factors and genetics predisposition are others. Blood pressure of 160/100 is hi for a 29 year old and most would start blood pressure medications at this point. My roommate keeps on snacking. She's eating lots of vegetables but gives up eating rice. How can I help her to practise a healthy diet? She's 19.
Here's an idea: I'm glad you care. Nobody likes to be told what to do, especially when you're almost grown up. Actually, i'm glad she's doing vegetables -- many folks don't. Rice isn't essential and neither is the traditional 3 meals per day. If she's becoming obese she probably would like a good model. The best you can do is invite her to eat out with you and offer her / suggest healthy stuff. ...Read more
