Crying (Definition)

Crying in infancy is described as a loud, high-pitched sound made by infants in response to certain situations. Can gas be a reason 7 week old baby isnt sleeping? (Breastfeeding)

Can gas be a reason 7 week old baby isnt sleeping? (Breastfeeding)

Yes: gas can be uncomfortable for newborns and can cause them to wake. However, 7 week olds may not be sleeping for other reasons as well. First question is how often is your baby sleeping. You likely have an 2 month well check coming up with your pediatrician and this is a great time to discuss sleep in detail so your current feeding/sleeping schedule can be reviewed. ...Read more

I have recurring tonsil stones and recurring tonsillitis. Currently breastfeeding a 7 week old. Will I need to wait till I wean my baby to be treated?

Not necessarily: Most treatments involving medications can be designed with breastfeeding in mind. Anesthesia required for surgical intervention could temporarily interfere with breastfeeding but storing enough breast milk for a few days while you recover is a viable solution. Hope you are feeling better soon! ...Read more

My best friend just passed away and its hard to stop crying. I have a baby boy 6 days old and exclusively breastfeeding him. Is my milk harm and dryin?

Grief &breastfeeding: I am so sorry about your loss. Stress can reduce your milk production but you will not dry up and your milk during this time will not harm your baby. Continue your routine and if baby does not get enough milk at certain feedings, he will get hungry sooner and nurse again. This is good because the more often he will empty your breasts, your brain gets the message that you need to produce more milk. ...Read more

My 2 month old baby has suddenly stop taking breastfeeding. But he is having formula.Whenever i try to give him breast feed he starts crying. ?

Keep trying: To have the formula from a bottle is easier for a baby because of the nipple opening is wider. It's much harder for them to get a milk from the breast. Keep on trying to breastfeed prior to the supplement infant with a formula. Be patient. ...Read more

One year old daughter crying for breast feed in night. Eats mild solids well. Not drinking bottle milk . Expects me always around her, else she cries?

Possible teething: She may be crying at night for another reason. At a year of age she is conceivably teething thereby giving her pain. Try giving her Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen) at bedtime and see if that soothes her.If you want to stop the night time feeds another thing you can try, is to let her cry it out. Go to her when wakes up, sooth her but don't pick her up. After 3-4 nights and youll get your rest. ...Read more

6 wk old won't stop crying has bad rash on butt w watery poop breast feed only. wants me only, sucking on everything and drools a lot. Has to cuddle ?

Your six week old is: Crying because he is hurting from irritation caused by watery poops. Try to avoid using warm water to clean his butt because it stings and burns. Apply some maalox antacid suspension to the affected areas as often as needed to calm it down. You will need a prescription for nystatin if your baby also has yeast diaper rash. ...Read more

I have a 7wk old & am breastfeeding. My hubby has been giving 1+ pumped bottle/day for a month. Can I give expressed milk sometimes w/o confusing him?

Yes, but...: Baby might not be confused, but he also might not take it. Speaking from personal experience, my daughter wouldn't take a bottle from me at that age - she knew i had the fresh stuff & insisted on nursing, but would take a bottle from anyone else. The best book out there for breastfeeding advice is "so that's what they're for: breastfeeding basics" by janet todaro. Good luck! ...Read more
