My 7 month old daughter hit her head on the coffee table she has a small bruise but didn't fall hard will she be ok?

She'll be fine: Sounds like nothing more than a superficial bruise occurred. If all she did was cry, but no loss of consciousness, no vomiting, and is acting normal now, she just has a bump. At her age, it maybe her first, but certainly not her last! ...Read more

My 7 month old hit head, ER doc said she's ok-minor trauma. Is xray necessary in this case? How can I know for sure there isn't any brain or skull damage

Head trauma: Your doctor has checked your child and found only minor trauma. You should not worry as long as baby is fine. Taking xrays, which would be a ct scan delivers a lot of x radiation to the infant which can be harmful, and radiation stays in the body indefinitely. Do not take xrays unless very necessary. ...Read more

My 11 month old stood up and hit her head (where the soft spot is) on my round glass table. Could this hurt her?

Maybe: The mechanism of injury you describe does not however suggest a risk for a serious head injury. My 8 month old hit his head on the corner of a table. There is a bump but he cried for a few minutes and is now playing normally. Should I worry?

No knockout/no pbm: The trauma that knocks you out, even briefly, has produced a concussion. If the trauma wasn't enough to cause even brief loss of function is minor. A bump coming out, means he has a blood pocket under the scalp, but should do fine. Some will throw up once or seem dazed with a headache. If he starts vomiting multiple times, I would have him seen. ...Read more

My 7 month old fell backwards and hit the back of his head kinda hard. He cried but quickly settled down. He seems normal, but will he be ok?

Probably : Most kids who fall back from their sitting height do not generate the kind of force needed to hurt them. This would be different if they hit the corner of furnature or brickwork. They cry, and settle quiickly. I would be worried if the kid passed out at the time of the fall or developed repeated episodes of vomiting. Keep him on his normal nap/sleep schedule and monitor as needed. ...Read more

6 month old fell off of changing table onto carpet and hit forehead and landed on side of shoulder. When should I take her to ER or be concerned?

Depends on variables: The condition of the kid should guide your actions. If the kid passed out, seems distant, is vomiting repeatedly and or the soft spot seems hard, an er visit is needed. If the kids behavior and activities seem unchanged, no vomiting, normal feeding activity, you can monitor at home. A call to the on call service and discussion of all features of the event would be appropriate. ...Read more

Abrasion: You may have a corneal abrasion that feels like a foreign body with light-sensitivity, watering, and pain. Your Family Doc can look at your eye with a blue light and dye to confirm. You may just need an eye patch, antibiotic drops, Motrin, and a day for healing. If supportive measures for a don't help, then you'll need to check it out with your ophthalmologist. ...Read more

I was placing my 7 month old in her crib after she fell asleep & her head kind of flopped back while putting her down. Could this hurt her at all?

Probably not.: If you were putting her down on a soft surface and her head was close to the mattress, she should be fine. Did she wake up when that happened? Is she otherwise healthy and normal developmentally? If she is sleeping comfortably and is healthy, you shouldn't need to worry.
