6 Month Old Has Cough And Congestion
Can i give a 15 month old anything to help her cough and congestion. Use Vicks baby rub and a humidifier but cough keeps her up at night.
Is it unsafe to for a 9 month old to have a Vicks vaporizer with the vaposteam in the water? My baby has a cough and congestion that keeps her awake.
I never use it: I find any scented material is more of an air pollutant in small kids than helpful. There airways are different than adults and often become more congested and or drain more when fragrances are used. I basically never recommend it .I can remember the stinky stuff my mom used when I was young, and still hate the smell. ...Read more
My 10 month old has a 101.9 fever (uner armpit reading), harsh cough, and congestion. She sleeps and breastfeeds. Should i seek professional help?
Depends: The fever often depends on the type of germ involved & where it is located. Many infant illnesses are viral & fever will last several days before recovery. As long as baby is taking in enough fluids to wet every 6hrs or better, is playful for much of the day & has no specific symptoms you can let it run its course. If baby can't seem to be playful at all, looks sickly or otherwise spooks you go in. ...Read more
14 month old had fever of 100-102 for 8 days with cough and congestion. Dr. Said viral on day 5. Should i take her to the doctor again tomorrow?
No: This is most likely a viral upper respiratory infection. First of all, if anyone in the house smokes, even outside, tell them to stop. Babies who grow up in households with smokers have increased rates of URI's, asthma, and SIDS. If not, then it will probably get better in 3-5 days. Use tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for fever, and if she starts vomiting uncontrollably or she is unarousable, go to the ER. ...Read more
15 months old with low grade fever (100.9~ 101.9~ 102) for 6 days, cough and congestion, how can I make her feel better, and is this just a bad cold?
Secondary Symptoms: Children can have prolonged low-grade fever with self-limited viral illnesses like uri. More concerned if fever max increasing after day 4, new symptoms develop (ear pain, dysuria) or child is feeling worse after day 4. With viral dx, fever usually highest dy1-3 and trends down, highest late at night and early in morning. With increasing fever/new symptoms, dr evaluates for secondary sources. ...Read more
Are there any OTC cough suppressants that I can give my 2 year old son? He has a cough and congestion, no fever. He weighs 30 pounds.
Post nasal drip: Most of the cough is due to mucus draining from the nose into the back of the throat. Since cough medicine do not shorten the illness, the American Academy of Pediatrics has discouraged the use of any cough medicine in kids under 6 years. You can help with nasal saline drops in the nose and suction it out, use a humidifier. Vaporub is safe to use, and raise the head of the bed, give fluids. ...Read more
