Growth adequate?: If she is gaining weight and growing fine, development on track, you have the perfect baby you prayed for! the key is adequate calorie intake over 24 hours. If she is getting that nursing during the day, then her body will let her sleep at night and let those growth hormones flow during her sleep. If growth is not adequate, talk to pediatrician about what changes need to be made to schedule. ...Read more

My baby is 7 months now n still wont sleep thru the night she wakes for bottle even though i give her a jar n bottle before bed shes stubborn?
That is normal: Some babies sleep thru the night, and some don't. Yours seems to get hungry at night. But there may be other causes for waking up. Diaper wet, any rash on the butt? Any noise? Etc. Your baby may wake up at night for one of these reasons, not for hunger, but he may find comfort in sucking and fall asleep. You may need to look at the whole routine. But some baby does need more food than the others. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 6 month old sleeps 1-3 hours and wakes up crying. I have to hold her upright to sleep. We tried gas drops, gripe water, now chamomille tea. Now what?
Check her ears: "jack-in-the-box" syndrome is often seen in kids w/ ear infection or ear pain. After being down for 90min, they pop up screaming. Then ear pressure is reduced & they return to sleep only to repeat the cycle all night or w/each nap. Reflux is certainly also possible for the same reason. Pressure in the head and stomach build when lying flat. Check in with your pediatrician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

It : It sounds as though you've done everything you can do and it's time for your child to be re-evaluated by a physician for her illness. Even though fever is most commonly caused by infections which are not serious, a fever that continues with an unknown source for longer than 4 or 5 days is concerning and needs to be looked into further for a cause. Sometimes as the illness progresses, signs and symptoms that weren't there before start to appear and can help doctors figure out what is going on and what treatments may be helpful. Another reason to take your child back in for evaluation is that she is not eating or drinking and may be dehydrated. In general, other "red flag" reasons to call your doctor or go to the er when your child has a fever are: your child is under 2 months old, uncontrolable fever, worsening or new symptoms, seizure, purple rash, change in consciousness, difficulty or rapid breathing, persistent headache, vomiting, or any other serious concerns you may have. My 10 week old screams before naps. No rocking, swaddling, etc calms her. She finally fell asleep on my chest. Is this Colic? I watch for sleep clues.
My baby 2 months old from her birth she does not sleep at night, she wakes up to 7-8 hours at night before sleeping. How to change her sleep pattern
Breast or bottle?: During the day, rouse her gently after 2 1/2-3 hours. Engage her in gooing & cooing & putting her on her tummy to play. Have a consistent bedtime at night, read, rock & cuddle in low light. Wipe out her mouth after the last feed to establish the habit. Put her in her crib in her own room, on her back, drowsy but awake. She'll learn to self-calm to fall asleep & may sleep 6 hrs by 4-6 mos. ...Read more
Trying to get 5 month old use to crib. He falls sleep with little fussing on stomach but cries loudly on back. I know sids danger. What should I do?
Infant sleep: While placing babies on their backs for sleep has had a very beneficial effect on the incidence of sids, it doesn't work for every baby. All babies are different, have their own temperament and personality. Some will just refuse to lie on their backs. If you have an infant like this, just roll with his personality and let him sleep as nature dictates. The risk of sids is really quite low. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
6 months baby sleeps for 6 hours then wakes up to feed and goes back to sleep. How can I make her sleep 9 hours straight?
Unlikely to happen: I'm surprised the kid will get 6 hours. Most will do up to 4 hours of deep sleep, alert and self settle for a few more and then get up for the day.No baby or adult sleeps continuously for 9 hours without cycling through shallow wake states. If you want her to wake at a different time, manipulate the start times to match your need. ...Read more
1 month old awake for 12 hours, won't sleep, tried rocking, singing, swaddling, warm bottle, car ride, lay on my chest, dark, quiet... I'm worried...?
Normal sleep pattern: OK, if your baby had a serious problem, it would have more symptoms than being awake, like cry, fussiness, fever, etc. If the only issue you have is staying awake, your baby is likely just off schedule. That said, but it to sleep around an hour earlier than typical to make up for its lack of sleep. If your baby does not sleep after 24 hours, go see your doc. ...Read more
1 month old awake for 12 hours, won't sleep - warm bottle, swaddle, dark, quiet, car rides, lay on my chest, singing, rocking... I'm worried...
Sleep: Don't worry. If there was a problem, you baby would show other symptoms like crying, fever, vomit, rash, etc. If the only symptom is you baby is awake, there is nothing you can do. Most infants will naturally fall asleep when they are tired. Most take 2 naps in the day, and 12 to 15 hours at night, but just like adults, they can go off schedule. If 24, go check her out. ...Read more

Trying to teach 11 mnths baby to sleep on her own in her room. I tried the cry it out but it didn't work . She keeps crying for 1 1/2 hour straight.Yyy?
That's called an: "extinction burst". When you consistently ignore night-crying , it first increases in duration & intensity. Continue to ignore it & it will soon "extinguish". Go in & pick her up after 1 1/2 hrs. & you teach her to cry for that long. At a consistent bedtime, feed, brush her teeth, read, cuddle, then put her in her own bed in her own room drowsy, but awake, to learn to self-calm to sleep. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
10 month old baby congested from common cold. Won't sleep on flat surface n no swing. Is it safe to use carseat for 1 night next to couch?
It does have risks.: The academy of pediatrics recommends a flat surface to prevent sudden infant death syndrome (sids). A more important aspect of helping the child sleep would be nasal saline drops and suction 2 or 3 times per day, but not more frequently than this. Certainly children can sleep in a car seat for prolonged periods without issue, but there is a higher chance of sids which must be considered. ...Read more
