6 Month Baby Wont Sleep Without Blanket
1 year: The american academy of pediatrics recommends keeping all blankets out of cribs until at least 1 year old. This is in order to decrease the risk of sids (which dramatically decreases after 12 mo). Instead of using blankets for your young ones dress them in warm footie pajamas. After 12 mo most babies have the ability to remove a blanket from their face or roll over. ...Read more
Talk to pediatrician: The best thing to do is to talk to your pediatrician about this. There are different philosophies about blankets. Somewhere between 12 and 24 months is generally accepted. Your doctor will be more specific for your baby. ...Read more
Physical mobility: When a kid can pull to stand in his/her crib, the chance they would suffocate in bed linen is negligible. Before then, I would consider it an invitation for trouble. Removing swaddling blankets, which are meant to help a newborn settle, should be accomplished before a month of age. ...Read more
After he's a baby: I recommend going without for as long as possible. Your baby doesn't need a blanket. It has been recommended to not use a blanket until 12 months of age because at 12 months the risk of sids is greatly diminished. I recommend waiting until closer to 2 years old if you want to introduce a blanket into the bed. ...Read more
No: Babies should be placed in the crib, on their backs, with no blankets, stuffed animals, or other items in the crib. Babies should always be put down on their backs because doing so has been shown to dramatically reduce the risk of sids (sudden infant death syndrome). ...Read more
Loaded question: Why do you ask? If an 80+ year old wanted to take his/her baby blanket with them to bed I wouldn't care or stop them. Kids usually give up these comfort things when they begin to sense peer pressure at school age. I do not recommend taking them from the child, ever! A kid should be provided his/her own space to decide what comforts them. Adults can be creative in finding ways for kid to give it up. ...Read more
My 4 weeks baby was sleeping with us in our bed covered under our blanket he was sweating when he woke up, how could it harm his skin or health?
I agree. Put him on: His back in his crib for naps & nighttime to reduce the risk of sids. If you have a consistent bedtime & routine of rocking, nursing, reading & wiping out his mouth after the last feed, then put him in his crib drowsy, but awake, he'll learn to self calm for sleep. This increases his chances of consolidating sleep by 4 mos. & prevents developmental night-crying at or after 6 mos. ...Read more

Try to record the sounds your child sounds like. This can be very helpful for your doctor or a pediatric ENT specialist to confirm the etiology for the sounds. An airway evaluation may also be recommended. ...Read more

Why ?: I limit initial blanket use for swaddling to the 1st month, or sooner when the baby accepts the additional freedom to move. I don't encourage blanket use again until a kid has the physical skills to stand up in his/her crib. Anybody else surround themselves with pillows and blankets when they sleep? What causes this response in people?
This is TOTALLY a: Guess. A few thoughts. The first is that it may lead to sense of feeling more protected. The layers of fabric may allow for that perception. The second thought is that it may feel opulent. The third though is that being in a nest of pillows & blankets may be like swaddling which could mimic comfort of the womb. (yes- that was a bit freudian). Bottom — line, I don't know the actual reason. ...Read more
