It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

Many problems: The fact that 3 muscles attach to the fifth metatarsal ( the peroneals) and that the fracture is displaced can cause an imbalance in these muscles and a non-healing fracture of that metatarsal. The peroneus longus passes under the cuboid- this muscle stabilizes the inner foot in gait and this crush fracture can cause problems with walking-- you should see your podiatrist for reconstruction. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I'm still experiencing pain, tingling, pins & needles & burning from a 5th metatarsal spiral fracture 4mths from injury date. Pain in ankle + fibula als?
Delayed healing.: All your symptoms are subjective in nature. I think knowing objective symptoms such as swelling, angular deformity or discoloring might contribute to understand just what the problem is. Fifth metatarsal fractures are not the easiest to heal even under perfect circumstances. Radio-graphic evaluation might be needed to see if there is a delayed healing of the bone or just a post fracture neuritis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Unfortunate: If the reduction has been lost, unfortunately you are probably going to need further surgery to get the fracture back in anatomical alignment. The danger in not doing this will be to develop post traumatic arthritis and a poor outcome. You might want to consider a second opinion from a hand specialist before proceeding with a second surgery if it can be obtained quickly. ...Read moreSee 8 more doctor answers

See a hand surgeon: Fractures through joint surfaces are generally more problematic than those outside of joints. Depending on a number of factors, they may predispose to the onset of early arthritis in the joint if the surface is not reconstructed accurately. I would see a hand surgeon to evaluate the particulars of your case. Good luck. ...Read more
