Start slow: Get the ok from your ORS before u begin running again; @ 1 year post - injury you should be able to start... My reccomendations would be make sure your ankle is strong ( theraband etc.), coordinated (proprioception-- balance)and begin slowly( walk, fast-walk) then jog . Backwards running: not entirely safe: you tend to run into things and trip and fall down ! Backwards elliptical is far safer. the main benefit is that different muscles are used for forward and backward. Plus side is that the stress is more even and the muscles worked are all built up.
