5 Month Old Baby Fussy In Evening
My almost 5 month old ebf baby has a 100.8 fever. Been a little fussy today but nothing else going on. Could it be teething or should I take him in?
What other sx ?: Fever @ a 100.8 level is common in infants with a wide variety of minor and some significant illnesses. I find tylenol can give comfort & take a degree off a temp, but any resolution will be the illness going thru its cycles. If baby is playing some & taking fluids well enough to wet every 6hrs, u may be able to ride this out at home. If quiet, taking poorly etc. Call in & or see the dr. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
The term "irritability" is used for infants and young children who, when ill, are especially fussy, whiny, and fretful, despite attempts at comforting and soothing them. Irritability can be a very early sign of serious problems. Although irritability is not a symptom of any specific illness, it should arouse suspicion in the parent that something might be wrong with the child, even though there may not ...Read more
Nothing: Breast feeding mothers frequently miss periods during the interim. It is nature's way to prevent a new pregnancy too close to the baby who needs your full attention. Once your breast feeding schedule lightens up, your periods will come back. Regardless, you should continue to practice safe sex to avoid pregnancy during this period. ...Read more

Diet: If formula fed, then switch to a lactose free formula or soy based formula. If on solids, give rice cereal, bananas and applesauce to thicken the stools. Keep this up for 2-3 days and then slowly advance the diet by adding in the normal diet. That should help. If not, then see the doctor for help. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
How long will ittake for the kareotyping results on a 5 month old baby.its been 10_days now.longer time means any prob with results?
Karyotyping takes up: to a month for results to return, depending on the lab. The results reveal chromosomal abnormalities. A Chromosomal Microarray reveals deletions or additions in smaller sequences of the genes that are arranged into the chromosomes. For a child with developmental delays, a DNA probe for Fragile X is also done. To detect Down Syndrome or other chromosomal anomaly, a karyotype is sufficient. ...Read more
ANY: If you believe your baby is sick enough that a trip to the ER is needed, just go. The fever in minor illness for a 5 month old can range from normal to 104+, and reflects the strong response baby is having to illness, it does not dictate how serious it is.Failing to feed, drink, play, respond to you are more predictive of serious illness. ...Read more
My 3.5 month old baby sleeps for max 45 min stretches at night. This doesn't seem normal for babies of this age. Is this bad for his development?
Will get by: Baby will do better than you with this. I would change the kid back to a more traditional night pattern. If you never allow the kid more than 2 hours of sleep at a time during the day, waking him to feed or whatever, you can get his deep sleep segment to go back to nights when you don't wake him.Don't feed prior to sleep, only feed on awakening. ...Read more
Maybe: I use this occasionally for kids who have had diarrhea.Yogurt with living beneficial bacteria can be helpful in these kids.I don't suggest it as a treat, or a part of their regular diet. An infant can do well on breast milk or formula alone for the first year, although adding some solids at 6 mo are traditional. ...Read more
A fussy infant or child is one who may be more irritable than usual. She may not eat as much as usual and may have trouble sleeping. A fussy baby may have an infection, teeth coming in, a tummy ache, or just be distressed due to a change of schedule or "having a bad day". If it persists or she can't sleep or eat anything, ...Read more
