Can you take trazadone 50 mg, temazepam 30 mg 1.5 grams of l-tryptophan and 325 mg of magnesium all together?

Can you take trazadone 50 mg, temazepam 30 mg 1.5 grams of l-tryptophan and 325 mg of magnesium all together?

Probably but why: YOu can probably take all this with little in the way of harm. I feel that if you need the trazodone that is fine. The temazepam might be all you need. Would not use the tryptophan as the temazepam and the trazodone should be all you need. I would skip the magnesium.

Taking a multivitamin supplement that has 100mg tryptophan. Is it safe to take it with ssri's since its known that together can cause serotonin syndrom?

Taking a multivitamin supplement that has 100mg tryptophan. Is it safe to take it with ssri's since its known that together can cause serotonin syndrom?

I would avoid it: It's a relatively small dose ot l-tryptophan, but these supplements have been controversial for several reasons...So I advise patients to avoid them entirely. A balanced diet with adequate quality protein content will give you all the neurotransmitter substrates you need. Serotonin syndrome is uncommon, but is identified by symptoms like headache, confusion, hallucinations, racing hrt, etc.

A lot: Many foods contain tryptophan, an essential Amino Acid that you can only get through diet. Chicken and turkey both have tryptophan. Tryptophan: Tryptophan is an Amino Acid that can be bought over-the-counter without prescription and helps some people with sleep. It is in high content in some foods such as turkey and high consumption can have the same effect. The research evidence is mixed and it does not meet the criteria of the fda for treatment of sleep problems. However, given that it is generally very safe it is probably worth a try.

Should I take 5htp for depression or tryptophan?

Should I take 5htp for depression or tryptophan?

Neither: Frankly, there is little evidence that either chemical treats depression. Both substances may get absorbed from the intestine, but they don't change brain levels of serotonin. Even if they did, depression is much more complicated than 'low serotonin'. Many people get a placebo boost from taking such products, double blind studies don't show them to be effective.

Is it safe to take 4, 000mg of tryptophan every day long term and is it available as a prescription or just otc? Thanks!

Trypothan: Has been touted as a treatment for many disorders, but benefit and efficacy are not proven. Generally, doses are less than 1/10 of what you mentioned. Therefore, there is no data to suggest if that dose is safe, but even much smaller doses have potential toxicity and can interact with multiple medications and supplements. Best to avoid and not get medical info from friends, tv or the internet.
