5 Htp And L Tyrosine Together
Can one take propranolol and 5-htp and l-tyrosine together? Are there any interactions between them one should be aware of?
Will taking L Tyrosine and 5 HTP together eliminate the chances of serotonin syndrome, dopamine/serotonin deficiency and be safe to use?
Those are not known to be effective treatments of serotonin syndrome. Prevention of serotonin syndrome is unstudied in medical literature so it is impossible to say whether taking those supplements will help. However, I would say that I'm very skeptical that this will help. Please be careful ...Read more
Different: 5htp is a precursor of serotonin, an inhibitory neurotransmitter. L-tyrosine is a precursor of the dopaminergic neurotransmitters Epinephrine and norepinephrine, which are stimulatory neurotransmitters. Although both 5htp and l-tyrosine may act as anti-depressants, they act in completely different ways. 5htp is best taken at bedtime; l-tyrosine should be taken in the am or during the day. ...Read more

Interesting question: There is no evidence that it would hurt. J Psychiatry Neurosci suggests: L-Tyrosine does not seem to enhance the release of catecholamines when neurons are firing at their basal rates, but it does when firing rates are increased by stress. The main effects of L-tyrosine that have been reported are acute effects in preventing a decline in cognitive function in response to physical stress. ...Read more
Are there any dangerous interactions between alcohol and a combination of 5-htp and l-tyrosine? How long must you wait in between if so?
Beware long term use: No scientific evidence that these herbal supplements are useful against psychosocial stressors. In fact, a 2007 Canadian study warned against the effects of long term use. No shortcut here, so better to exercise, relaxation technique and prescription if necessary. ...Read more

Probably not: This has been studied, and 5-htp, the precursor for serotonin, is sold in healthfood stores for this purpose. The idea is to flood the body and brain with precursor to increase serotonin (or with tyrosine, norepinephrine), having the same effect as getting an antidepressant. Problem is, you flood the whole body, not just specific parts of the brain, so lots of se not much specific benefits. ...Read more
Did research on supplements n came across L Tyrosine and 5 HTP combination for boosting mood. Will a combination of these have focusing effects?
Supplements are not regulated for dosage or purity. You may or may not be getting what is labeled. So these may or may not raise your neurotransmitters that are involved with depression.
Thats why they are supplements and not medications.
When you speak about focus as an adult I think more about hyperactivity or ADD. The supplements you describe would not help that. ...Read more

Prescribed Vicodin 5/500 for once monthly menstrual use. Taking l-tyrosine and 5-htp daily- safe to take at same time as 1 Vicodin? Pharmacy unsure.
Vicodin?!: Vicodin is a powerful Narcotic--and very addicting. Its used for pain after major surgery like a hysterectomy or open heart surgery. Personally, I would never prescribe it for menstrual pain because you are almost certain to become addicted to it. If your pain is so bad that you need Vicodin, you need a 2nd opinion. Its probably safe to take with l-tyrosine and 5-htp. ...Read more
