5 Hour Energy Supplement Facts
What supplements are best for my well-being but provide me with extra natural energy? I was on a streak of taking 5 hour energy shots but realized this was probably not a very good way to keep myself energized. I am trying to avoid energy drinks and such
Would keep avoiding: There is no evidence that any supplement is needed in healthy people for energy or well-being or anything else. A healthy diet, with lots of fruits and vegetables, diverse protein sources limiting red meat and saturated fats, is really all you need. If you are concerned, any of the available women's multivitamins (centrum, one a day etc, and their generic equivalents) would be fine. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Proven vs unproven: By definition, "alternative" is different than modern western medicine. Generally any drug, herb, treatment, or procedure that stands up to rigorous scientific scrutiny is included in modern medicine. The problem is that many alternative practices, herbs etc do not stand up to scientific scrutiny and cannot be shown to work. They therefore remain "alternative". Be careful and watch your wallet. ...Read more

Energy drinks: Energy drinks are metabolic enhancers - speed up the metabolism. I am frequently tired through out the day and have little energy after work. Is adrafinil safe to supplement with?
Yes: Adrafinil is the first of a class of drugs in the "alerting" class. Adrafinil is the prototype, available in Europe. Newer (more expensive) analogs (Modafinil [Provigil] and Armodafinil [Nuvigil]) are available in the US). The newer drugs are more potent--but all are very safe. One rare side effect is Stevens-Johnson syndrome, which can be serious. Watch for rash--discontinue if it occurs. ...Read more

Depends: You need an evaluation to ascertain the cause of "lack of energy" as it is not a diagnosis, per se. It would be prudent to see a doctor for an evaluation. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. You can't: All of these "muscle max" supplements have no true clinical studies that they do anything helpful for you. The one: The one you need. Of course, first we should find out what is going on. A visit to your dr. May clarify this, after examination and maybe some labs. If you are having low energy for some reason, it s always better to address the cause; as opposed to masking the problem increasing your energy "artificially", neglecting the real solution.
