Depends: Many of those drinks are high in sugar and caffeine, others are high in b vitamins. I'd avoid the first set, but the sugar and caffeine-free ones really aren't that bad for you. It's malic acid: And it probably doesn't do any more harm than any other carbohydrate (which is what it is - a sugar). Energy drinks are primarily "fueled" by caffeine. The additional vitamins, Amino Acids and sugars in it are window dressing and there is no evidence that they add anything to the "energy" derived from the caffeine. Intrinsically, No.: If you need to stay awake for 5 hours and have no physiologic reason to avoid stimulants i don't see this as bad per se. However, repeated use or dependency might make you wonder if something else is underlying. Clearly there are many conditions and medications which would make taking stimulants unwise. Mixing other psychoactive drugs including the illegal stuffs and alcohol probably not good. ...Read more

Typical effects might be heart palpitations, fast heart rate, tremulousness, anxiety, possibly headache, and a general crappy feeling...
