Miscarriage: What you have is an abnormal pregnancy - a miscarriage. Bleeding will begin, but it may take a few weeks more. You can't do anything yourself to make a miscarriage happen, and you can't do anything to stop one. About 1 in every 5 pregnancies miscarried - usual when there is something wrong with baby. ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Heartbeat?: I'm assuming you are talking about the baby's heartbeat? If so, there is no cause for concern. The baby's heartbeat can be quite variable in early pregnancy and this isn't a cause to worry. Best wishes! ...Read more

What are the causes of an enlarged uterus with a heterogeneous texture? Measuring at 128×40×80mm. Cyst on cervix also. Had pelvic pain 3 years.

What are the causes of an enlarged uterus with a heterogeneous texture? Measuring at 128×40×80mm. Cyst on cervix also. Had pelvic pain 3 years.

Uterus: By the measurements your uterus is certainly enlarged. One cause is fibroid tumors. These are easily seen on ultrasound and would have been mentioned on your report. The combination of the pain and the enlargement suggests that you might have adenomyosis, a non-cancerous condition. An MRI might be helpful in diagnosing this. ...Read more

Can ultrasounds (2d, 3d and 4d) have an affect on a developing fetus? Long term affects?

Can ultrasounds (2d, 3d and 4d) have an affect on a developing fetus? Long term affects?

Highly unlikely: There have never been problems from ultrasound, either long or short term, demonstrated conclusively in humans. While it's impossible to guarantee zero chance, there have been many millions of ultrasounds on pregnant women with no convincing suggestion of risks. Recommendations are still to limit us exposure to medically necessary - so the boutique 'keepsake' ultrasounds should be avoided! ...Read more

How early can a gender be detected on a 3d ultrasound?

Depends: The position of the fetus can be important in being able to see the area of interest. Some males are clearly seen at 12 weeks. Testicles are not fully descended unto the scrotum until 24-28 wks. If the fetal position is favorable gender can usually be confidently determined by 14-16 weeks. Bilirubin 1.6, (id 1.3, d .25) other lft normal, reticulyte normal, , ultrasound normal . Bilirubin fluctuates, do I need to keep testing bili?

Bilirubin 1.6, (id 1.3, d .25) other lft normal, reticulyte normal, , ultrasound normal . Bilirubin fluctuates, do I need to keep testing bili?

Probably Gilbert's: Gilbert’s syndrome is due to deficiency of an enzyme that helps to excrete bilirubin, so the indirect bilirubin is usually elevated, without increases in alkaline phosphatase. Patients with gilbert’s syndrome are prone to develop higher bili levels from time to time. The risk increases with fasting, dehydration, repeated and profuse vomiting, infections, exertion and stress and after a surgery. ...Read more

3 early ultrasounds. 1st us at 6wk 3d measured only 6wk. 2nd at 7wk2d measured 6wk4d. 3rd at 9wk3d, baby measured 8wk2d. Is this concerning?

No, but: You are having decent interval growth, and early us is not as exact size and dating as those in the second trimester. However, you are older, so there are concerns related to that like adequate placental blood flow, so you need to make sure you are followed closely, don't smoke, get plenty of rest and reduce your worrying and stress, as even these can affect blood flow. ...Read more
