When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

I'm 40 weeks pregnant and have not had any contractions in 3 weeks. I'm only 1cm dilated & 90% effaced how can I bring on contractions to help dilate?
Talk to UR obstetrii: Postdated pregnancy? , if true by the usg estimation of gestation , talk to ur obs. Doc. After waiting for few day, less than a wk , they may plan induction of labor- medication induced vs caesar.S based on pelvic findings, any foetal distress, failure of induction with medications .There are still chance sthat your pregnancy can end up successfully in a normal labor. With 90 % effacement already. ...Read more
How long do doctors wait to induce after 40 weeks and I'm only 50 percent effaced and 1 CM dilated as of today? And I'm 40 weeks and 4 days pregnant?
Any day but depends,: Your physician has many options and decisions to make. If the baby is getting to large or not growing he/she may opt to induce now. If all is well one might wait up to 42 weeks. Rarely will one go past 42. Another decision will be vaginal delivery or C-Section if you do not progress. Follow up with your physician, they certainly will look out for your best interest. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
40 weeks and 4 days pregnant and only 50 percent effaced and 1 CM dilated how much longer do u think labor will happen?
Pregnancy: That is one of the great questions of our time. All I know is babies never stay in they always come out. Not to be flippant, but your baby will come when it is ready or when your doctor decides you meet the criteria for induction. Good luck! ...Read more

Im 32weeks pregnant and im dilated 1cm how many CM do I have to dilate to get kept in the hospital? This is my first pregnancy
See below...: Labor is defined as regular contractions that are changing your cervix. At 32 weeks, it is not necessarily normal to be dilated, and hopefully your doctor has addressed any concerns about preterm delivery. If you are not clear on when to call them, then call them now and get this clarified. ...Read more

I am only 23 weeks and 1 day pregnant and 4 CM dielated and having contractions and my doctor said I am fine ?
Does not make sense: Are you sure this is what the doctor said? That does not make sense. If you are 4 cm dilated at 23 weeks then you need to be in the hospital as your risk of preterm delivery is astronomically high. I am wondering if the doctor was talking about a 4 cm cervical length? If so that would actually confirm that things are ok. Length is dif than dilation. Confirm with doc immediately. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
39weeks and 4 pregnant I'm dialated 2 CM as of a few days ago and my contractions are 5 min apart I'm having severe back pain should I go in to hosp.?
Intercourse: Hi! three centimeters is great! the best way to safely induce or encourage maybe is a better word labor at home is intercourse. The semen contains prostaglandins in small amounts. Prostaglandins are what providers use to induce labor in some cases. Put your baby-daddy to work! if your water breaks though, then stop and call your provider. Good luck! dr brown. ...Read more
I'm 37 weeks pregnant and i'm 3 CM dialated and 70% effaced does this mean i'm gonna be having my baby soon or could it still be weeks to come ?
Could be anytime!: By that, i mean that you could go into labor tonight - or you might still be pregnant a month from now! certainly, the fact that your cervix is 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced (thinned) is evidence that your body is getting ready. I had one woman who was 5 cm dilated for several weeks! everybody thought that baby was just going to fall out! so do the best you can to be patient (!); time will pass. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I am 39 weeks pregnante with my first child. I am totally effaced but only one CM dilated. How can I start to dialate quicker?
Regular activity.: It unfortunately takes as long as it takes to go into active labor. You cannot rush these things. Regular activity as tolerated, including sexual intercourse unless prohibited by your physician (or mood), is reasonable advice. Patience is a virtue. Keep all prenatal care appointments. Good luck! ...Read more
Im 36 weeks and 3 days pregnant have been having sharp shooting pains that last a few seconds and its mostly when he moves my dr said that im dialated 1 1/2 cm what does this mean?
You're getting ready: to deliver! You're in the home stretch, that's for sure. I presume your birthing classes have taught you that the cervix will dilate to 10 cm and thin (efface) considerably before delivery. The pain could simply be a pelvic structure that is being compressed when the baby moves. Review your birthing plan and get ready for the ride of a lifetime! Very good wishes! ...Read more
