FEVER: Mostly caused by viruses, low to high grade fever, gets better in 3-5 days, max 7-10 days. As long as the child is acting ok, drinking and peeing well, give Acetaminophen 4-6 hourly for fever 101 f or above. Yes, safe.: Daily recommended dose for infants is 1K daily, but if there is a deficiency then much higher doses are used to bring levels to normal. Studies have been done with rickets and found that 600 K once is about equivalent to 5-10K/d for 2-3 months. Resistant rickets may require higher doses. Not an unusual: complaint of patients receiving Depo Provera (it's called "breakthrough bleeding" It is still acting as a contraceptive!!!!! If the spotting is worrisome or even "inconvenient" an adjustment i the dosage of Provera (or withdrawal allowing a full period while using another means of contraception ) could be discussed with your GYN.
