4 Year Old Child Speech Delayed
4 year old has speech delay. We speak 3 langs at home and she doesn't interact w other toddlers. Can pre k+ speech therapy fix/help?
Should: Multilingual kids should still progress with speech & language at the same pace as others. I would contact the local public school special services department & arrange an evaluation. They have a program called Child Find which is designed to find such kids and work with them to prepare them for school entry.
4 year old has speech delay, we did blood tests and Vitamin D was 14, B12 was 1200 and IgE was 192, every other tests normal, can these cause delay?
Speech Delay: Evaluation for speech delay typically includes a good neuro exam including hearing, dysmorphic screen., MRI, EEG and aphasia assessment. perinatal and developmental history are reviewed. pediatric Neurobehavioral assessment may also include screening for specific developmental or degenerative disorders. The b12 is OK. Vit D 25-OH level should be 30-100 range.See 1 more doctor answer
4yr old son has tongue tie, speech delay & gap in lower front teeth. Dentist recommends lingual frenectomy. Will this help?
Maby: Most speech and language specialists will do an oral motor exam as part of their evaluation. If the tip if the child's tongue can easily reach the sites within the mouth needed to form the letters a frenulotomy may not help. If you haven't had a speech evaluation done, i would do so. The therapist can help you decide to proceed with the procedure if they feel it would be helpful.See 4 more doctor answers
Could pandas be responsible for a child's speech delay? My 3 year old relative is still not talking . Although he shows intellegence in many other areas, he only makes consonet-vowel sounds like "ba" very loudly and is upset when his desires are not under
Not an issue: This is a curious disorder of older school age kids and adolescents. At 3, various forms of speech and language delay, verbal apraxia etc are more common and relevant. An evaluation by a developmental pediatrician and speech and language pathologist would give you more information.See 2 more doctor answers

I've never seen it: I've dealt with the issue for three decades & never seen it as a primary cause. If the kid has a sleep disorder related to sleep apnea/tonsil size i could see it causing chronic health problems, but not changing the emergence of speech & language skills in a kid that was ready.See 2 more doctor answers
My three-year-old is speech delayed. He has tubes in his ears but still has lots of wax constantly in his ears. How can I prevent wax buildup?
Speech delay: I am sorry2hear this. I am sure he has been worked up by his pediatrician or sent u for a consultation 4a developmental assessment. There r providers who provide speech therapy and my patients usually have significant improvement form this. As far as the wax build up goes, since he has tubes in his ears, all u can do is clean with a tissue, make sure u don"t use q-tips, they push wax further back.
Speech therapist told me that omega 3 helps with speech delay. Is this true? If so, how many mg. Daily for my 2 1/2 year old daughter?
my son is 3 1/2 years old. He has a signifacant speech delay and seems to tune people out. Are these signs of autism?
Son 4 years old and only 32 pounds, eats well, sleeps well, has slightly low ferritin at 10, is slightly hyper and has speech delay, can he have worms?
Could be normal: but he is around the 5th to 10th percentile depending on his age (4-1/2 etc). His stature alone is not concerning but has his growth been normal? It is easy to test for parasites with a stool sample and a blood sample. Normally it is not just the ferritin that is low but the hemoglobin too! This can also be seen with eosinophilia (increased type of blood cells). Easy to test for and treat.
My 3 years old has speech delay, she was also diagnosed with enlarged adenoids, can this cause speech delay?
When you put a child with speech delay age 3 in a class of autistic children can they pick up their behaviors?
Possibly, however,: Speech = articulation, the motor aspect of language. A child with receptive & expressive language delay" has impaired ability in comprehending language & in verbalizing ideas. Language is best learned from birth-5. Autism pre-k has 6 hrs. Of intensive instruction. Developmental delay pre-k has 2 1/2 hrs. Of instruction for children with various needs. Try the higher level of service first.See 3 more doctor answers
My child has speech delay, he was saying few words around 20months but he he completely stopped talking since about 6months ago. He only makes noise.
No: There are no drugs to fix this collection of issues. Hyperactivity may benefit from several available if found reasonable on a workup by the doc. Hearing impairment & speech delay must be evaluated through ENT /speech pathology testing to decide proper therapy.
19 month old speaks 15 words and many protowords, understands one step commands and 100 words. Tested, and is socially fine. Speech delay or normal?
Possibly delayed: At 19 months, one would expect a toddler to know 50-75 words, understand up to 200 and be able to follow a two step command. These are only general guidelines, as speech development can vary in certain situations, such as bilingual households, multiple siblings, etc. Excessive pacifier use has been linked to delayed speech development as well. Here is a link for you: http://www.asha.org/public/speech/disorders/LateBlooming.htm
Depends on situation: Most garbled speech in a 3yo has less to do with the tongue than on the manner the kid started using words. If the tip of the tongue can touch the top of the mouth & jut out past the lower teeth, it is unlikely a frenulotomy would be needed. If you contact the "child find " program in your location they should assess your childs speech & advise you on her needs.See 1 more doctor answer
My 3 yr old daughter still not potty trained. She is speech delayed which makes it really hard. Have tried everything! I feel like a terrible parent!?
Blame the pull-ups!: I'll answer each issue separately. Pull-ups wick away moisture, making it less likely that kids will feel the wetness when they urinate. Can she walk from room to room , say "pee-pee, poo-poo, and potty, get her pants up and down and sense when slhe has to have a bm? If so, steps to independence is a good book.F.See 2 more doctor answers
