4 Week Old Breastfeeding Schedule
Varies: Generally, if you are breast feeding, your cycle will remain suppressed. This can be even as long as a year if the infant nurses frequently. However, the down side is that nursing is no guarantee of birth control. If you let up for even a few days or the baby backs off a couple of days due to illness and isn't nursing well, you can ovulate. Talk to OB about alternate forms of spacing your kids. Read more
Breastfeeding is providing nutrition to an infant using breat milk either directly by infant latching and sucking on the nipple or by feeding via bottle with expressed breast milk (when baby has difficulty suckling). Breast milk is the best milk for any baby but ...Read more
I have 4 week old baby and am breastfeeding. Have noticed brown/blackish spots like freckles or moles on my areoles. What could these be?
Firstly, congratualtions on the birth of your child!
it is likely that those spots are due to hormonal changes in your body affecting the pigment making cells in your skin.
However, I would show them to your gyn just to be sure. One would really need to see what it looks like in order to properly explain what exactly those spots are. Read more
I'm breastfeeding and have a four week old and now have bad minstural cramps but no period. What is going on?
Oxytocin: The cramping is due to oxytocin release which occurs with breast feeding. It produces cramps very similar to menstrual cramps, but it is extremely unlikely at 4 weeks post-partum and breast feeding that you have ovulated yet and/or going to have any 'period'. The uterus is just contracting and getting back to normal size - unfortunately for us women, that involves the muscle cramping to shrink. Read more
My daughter one month old haven't passed stool four days ago till now, she was passing with each breastfeeding. Is it ok & what should I do.
My four month old baby is on combination feeding. Formula feeds (enfamil) 4 ounces three or four times a day plus breast feed is it too much?
Formula &breast fed: The amount of formula your baby is getting is not too much, I can't judge how much he gets from breast feeding, if the baby is gaining weight within the expected range, being content & happy then you're on the right track. Your pediatrician will discuss the baby's growth during every well visit. You can discuss your concerns with him. Good luck, enjoy your bundle of joy. Read more
What essential oils CANT I diffuse with a 4 week old? Also, can I ingest grapefruit in capsule form to help with weight loss if breast feeding?
No problem: I think the essential oil diffuser is fine, you are speaking about a natural scent in the room, so should be any risk there. Grapefruit has no harmful effects either. Although, you need to be sure if this is a weight loss product that you understand the ingredients. If there are also ingredients like ephedra, caffeine or other weight loss additives in there proceed with caution. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My 6 month old is constipated. No bowel movement in 3 days, he's not happy, not playing much, still breastfeeding on schedule. What can I do?
My baby is 7 plus months old and I'm breastfeeding. Can I have an occasional cup of coffee? Probably once a week.
Go for it: Coffee has stimulant properties that may influence a babies sleep/wake cycle when used regularly. Some consider that worthy of avoiding it. It is only dangerous in the premi and newborn who have not developed the enzyme systems that can break the caffeine down. For them a little caffeine can hang around for weeks. Older kids like yours are at no risk. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

My baby is almost 3 months old. I started out breastfeeding but only breastfed for maybe 2 weeks. I want to go back to breastfeeding...?
Relactating: It is not too late to relactate, but it will take some time/effort and patience. You should find out how to set up a supplement system so the baby suckles at your breast and gets formula and the little bit of milk you may be starting to produce a the breast. A tube is taped along your breast with the tip by your nipple and the milk put in a syringe hooked up to it. Seek lactation consultant help. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My son is 6 weeks & 4 days old, He's Bottle fed since birth. I'm now taking interest in breastfeeding him but I smoke. Since I smoke is it harmful?
No, it's not harmful: Breastfeeding is helpful in preventing respiratory illnesses in babies who live in homes where there is smoking. Try to smoke as little as possible, which is good for you and your baby. Also try to not smoke in the same room as the baby. It might be difficult to start breastfeeding at 6 weeks. A lactation consultant might be helpful in getting your baby to latch and increasing your milk supply Read more

I'v been feeling very overwhelmed with my 6 month old going for op in 2 weeks time. Need something to take to calm down when need it. What can I use? Still breastfeeding her but she is on solids also. Must be safe for her.
Meds/breast feeding: Medication for anxiety as well as most other medications are passed into breast milk, but in very low concentrations, but to be completely "safe", you might consider stopping breast feeding until the operation is over. Consult your healthcare provider for the appropriate medication. Read more
