Coronary disease: This is severe coronary disease for a young man like you. Consider evaluation at the cleveland clinic or mayo clinic. Before getting to transplant, i assume they've discussed options for stenting and bypass. Given the complexity, i suggest those facilities to get the best care. Also, you should have genetic testing and advanced lipid analysis. Good luck! ...Read more

Is there a less invasive procedure (imaging,i.e.) than angiogram to diagnose heart blood vessel blockage?

Is there a less invasive procedure (imaging,i.e.) than angiogram to diagnose heart blood vessel blockage?

It depends: The answer is more complicated than you can imagine. It depends on the definition of "blockage", the presence or absence of symptoms and the reason for the test. A nuclear medicine stress test is the first test done if a physician suspects a patients symptoms are due to coronary disease but isn't 100% sure. It will usually give the answer. If the results are equivocal a CT angiogram will be done. ...Read more

Doctor suspects a avm or narrowing of vessels from mri. When I have an angiogram can they be wrong? The angiogram is for exploration.

Doctor suspects a avm or narrowing of vessels from mri. When I have an angiogram can they be wrong? The angiogram is for exploration.

Yes: An MRI is a screening tool that can detect an avm. The cerebral angiogram provides a more detailed view of the vessels in the brain. It is true that there are suspicious areas seen on the MRI which are not true avm vessels. Conversely, there may be areas that may not be interpreted as avm, but become apparent on the angiogram. ...Read more

A MRI may have shown a cluster of blood vessels in my brain. They are unsure. They ordered a angiogram. What if they don't see a cluster?

A MRI may have shown a cluster of blood vessels in my brain. They are unsure. They ordered a angiogram. What if they don't see a cluster?

No cluster?: Actually, what you really want is for them not to see a cluster. This would tend to mean that the original findings on the MRI were a "false positive"--something that looked abnormal without any real abnormality. This happens a fair amount. Good luck. ...Read more

I had a MRI done on my spine and brain. And it came back abnormal. I am asked to do a angiogram, wht could this mean. I have a cluster or blood vessel?

I had a MRI done on my spine and brain. And it came back abnormal. I am asked to do a angiogram, wht could this mean. I have a cluster or blood vessel?

Answering why: Most doctors rule out or ensure the absence of life threatening events. A typical problem with a tumor that is cancerous is "angiogenesis" which is developement of new blood vessels. It does not mean that a cancer is there. It means that bads things are ensured to not be there. ...Read more

Upcoming angiogram for brain. To check for avm or narrowing of vessels. Or fistula. What symptoms would I have for either condition?

Upcoming angiogram for brain. To check for avm or narrowing of vessels. Or fistula. What symptoms would I have for either condition?

Symptoms: The symptoms could be quite varied for an aneursym or avm, but would include headache, changes in vision (spots, blurring, transient loss of vision, etc), in some cases, could even cause seizures, weakness of a limb, affected speech, impaired coordination. It all depends in what portion of the brain the lesion is located. ...Read more

Doctor suspects avm or narrowing of vessels in brain from mri. Have upcoming angiogram. Can they be wrong. Im told this is strictly for exploration. ?

Possibly: Mris are good screening tests for the avm. The final test is the angiogram. That is because this is a dynamic test, meaning that one can see the flow of the blood in the vessels. This will help with defining the anatomy of the vessels in the abnormality. As to whether an MRI may be wrong in diagnosing an avm, that is possible if the findings on the MRI are not clear. ...Read more
