It's possible: It's possible but very hard to be sure. The only way to know would be to ask him and of course he probably can't answer at this stage of his life. Sudden changes of pressure in the eustachian tube from yawning or swallowing can produce sudden sharp pains in the ear which by themselves aren't really harmful, but prolonged fluid in the middle ear may cause hearing loss over time. I wouldn't advise it: Infants seldom sleep > 4hrs at a time without waking at least briefly. They are capable of one period of prolonged sleep / 24hr & having a day nap that long could flip the day night pattern. Babies should get their soundest sleep when you try to get yours. I try to limit their day naps to 2hrs in the first month & 3 hours thereafter. ...Read more
How can I get my 4 month old to nap in his crib? Right now he will only sleep in swing or car seat.
Does he seem:
To be uncomfortable in his crib? Does he spit up a lot when lying down or cry and arch his back or awaken more often? He may have reflux even if he is not spitting up. If that is the case, an antacid will relieve his discomfort. Discuss with his pediatrician and if all is ok you can use behavioral measures. Call back after discussion.

My 1 year old son is teething and not sleeping through the night. Wakes up screaming. Falls asleep but as soon as I put him down he wakes. Advice?
Help with teething: Generally Ibuprofen is much more effective for teething than acetaminophen. You can also let your baby chew on a cold teething ring. Some parents have found camilia really aids in teething discomfort. It is important you do not give your baby more than four doses of Acetaminophen per day. Acetaminophen really challenges the liver. Wait a little: It is normal for all of us to have awakenings when we sleep. Give her 5 minutes to see if she will settle back down. If not, go and check on her to make sure she is alright (ex: leg not stuck in crib) and if so, try to pat and shush her (try to not pick her up) and leave again. ...Read more
My 18 month son wakes up screaming and crying after being asleep for only 3 hours. It's been going on for about 2 months and every night what's wrong?
Other features??: If the kid is fully awake when you check him and calms to your visit, this can arise from many sources.Separation anxiety, changes in living conditions, absence of a parent, all may play a role. A medical condition should be evident during daytime activities. If the kid is not awakeor doesn't immediately waken to your touch, it might be a sleep disorder called a night terror, more common to older kids. ...Read more
My son is 4 months old. He was taking a nap in my arms, when he had woke up I noticed he had a raised bruise that covered his shin with red spots.
Last night my baby slept for 11 hrs. What's a normal stretch for a 4 month old to sleep at night? Should I wake him up after so long?
Ready to crib train my 8mo old, but she won't stay asleep unless I'm next to her. She'll scream -- any suggestions?
Try gradually moving: Away. Start with having your head next to hers, but while standing outside of the crib. She'll cry, but eventually will fall asleep. Each day, move further away, until you're not in the room. Your other alternative is letting her cry, waiting 10 minutes and then go in;let that time stretch out (may get up to 1/2hr)before going in. The crying will stop and she will sleep on her own with either technique. ...Read more

Gut issues: Discuss this with your pediatrician. Things that cone to mind are #1 diet...If you are breastfeeding are you drinking milk or eating dairy (it is very irritating to the guts of infants). Is this recurrent or: A one time occurrence? If it's recurrent and he/she seems fine once awake, there probably is not anything physically wrong. Otherwise, it could be acid reflux, gas or one of several other reasons. 2 month old. Projectile vomiting. Wakes up when I lay her down. Prefers to sleep on tummy. Wakes up screaming.
Decide yourself: A 4mo old does not know when she's sleeping or that sleep would help her fatigue. Parents who rock/carry infants until they fall asleep have 400% more sleep disturbances in kids the first 3 yrs of life. Your goal is to create a comfortable sleep zone/crib where baby feels safe. It should have light so baby can always recognize the place & some comforting sound. ...Read more

My 4 month old daughter fights sleep & her bottle. Any suggestions on what souls be causing this?
Stay calm: Sometimes when infants this age "fight" things, it is because they are overstimulated. She is likely sensing your anxiety, and this reflects in her inability to settle down. First, is she gaining and growing fine - then don't fret about "needing" a certain bottle. With her sleep, lay her down and let her chill out - sometimes trying to settle them down by rocking, etc jsut makes things worse! ...Read more
My 11 month old always wants to nap 2 to 2 1\2 hours after she wakes up in the morning is this normal?
Yes: This sounds very normal, as long as, when she is awake for those couple of hours and after her nap, she is alert and playful. It also depends on how long she is sleeping at night. Most children her age take 1 to 2 naps per day and still sleep 9-12 hours at night. Please speak to her pediatrician if you have further concerns. ...Read more
