4 Month Old Breast Fed Farts Smell Like Rotten Eggs What Is The Cause
Breastfeeding is providing nutrition to an infant using breat milk either directly by infant latching and sucking on the nipple or by feeding via bottle with expressed breast milk (when baby has difficulty suckling). Breast milk is the best milk for any baby but ...Read more
My sonwas low birth weight. 1.7kg. He is now 4 month old and 5.4kg. Can I give him zincovit drops? What is the dose? He is exclusively breast fed now.
My 4 month old has not had a bowel movement in 3 days. Only breast fed. Is this ok or what should I do?
How is she doing?: Depends on how he's doing. If he's happy and eating well, and the stool is ultimately soft, then you're doing ok. If there is a lot of straining and hard stool, then some stool softening measures as discussed with your pediatrician are a good idea. Even breast feeding stools will firm up around 1-2 mo of age, and can be harder later. ...Read more
My 2 month old screams in pain after farting, only pooping 1x a day and it's aoft. Breast fed. Don't know what to do has been super fussy for over 24?
Crying babies: Breast fed babies may poop with every feed or may go a couple of days between bowel movements. As long as it's soft no worries. The new fussiness could be due to a number of things. Best way to handle it is to let the pediatrician know what's going on. They can get more details and get a physical exam done to figure out what is going on ...Read more
My son is 2 yrs old. I breast fed for the first 3 months of infancy. But I still get very minimal milky discharge. No pain, foul smell, or discoloration?
2 mo old baby passes lots smelly farts. Poop mustard yellow, smelly. Sometimes in pain. Formula and breast fed. Tried ovol, gripe, massage. Concern?
Baby poop: What you are describing all sounds very normal. The poop is a reflection of the bacteria in the baby's gut as well as your diet (as you are sometimes breast feeding). Babies often cry when trying to have bowel movements - it's a new thing for them and they have to learn how to relax a sphincter and at the same time are bearing down to push the stool out - they get frustrated/cry - it gets better ...Read more
Why did my 3 1/2 mo old breast fed babies poop smell different (almost a medicinal smell!) when on erythromycin eye ointment for eye infection?
Hard to say: This could be a situation where antibiotic somehow got on the baby's hand and made its way into the GI tract, OR, possibly something you are eating in your diet could be affecting the poop. The only thing that will prove what caused this is whether the funny poop smell is gone after the eye treatment is stopped for a week or so... ...Read more
Baby poop: Can be many different colors naturally and this is not usually a sign of any problem. In breastfed babies anything that the mother consumes can affect the baby's poop. As long as your baby otherwise appears well, and is well hydrated, this is not usually a reason for concern. Signs of dehydration in a baby as illustrated, are reason for medical attention. ...Read more
My baby is 3 days old and hasn't pooped since we left the hospital. He is also having major bouts of gas. He is breast fed?
Other Sx???: The breast fed baby can have a small smear of poo every feeding or a giant crib filler poo every 7-10 days & be normal. If all of babies stools have been soft to this point & baby is otherwise behaving normally, I wouldn't do much other than wait for the inevitable poo. I baby has dropped his/her feeding activity & changes play patterns, an exam may be indicated. Call the office & check with dr. ...Read more
4 mo. Old baby has been breast-fed only, we fed him some baby oatmeal cereal & now he has not pooped for 4 days (previously daily pooping), advise?
Probably OK: It is not unusual for babies to have change in stool pattern when you introduce cereal. Also, it is normal for breastfed babies to have longer periods of time with no stools. Breast milk is the perfect baby food, thus there is less "waste" so to speak. If the baby's stomach is not distended, and he has a large soft stool infrequently this is not constipation requiring intervention. ...Read more
My breastfeeding breasts smell an odor like strong bo. My son is 7 weeks old. What is this stink?
I am breastfeeding a 7 months old baby with lots of food allergies e.g. egg, milk, wheat and corn. How long do these allergens stay in my breast milk?
Breast milk: Many pediatricians and pediatiric clinics assign the diagnosis of "foor allergies" as a cause of "colic" or poor feeding by an infant. It is possible that no "true allergies" have occurred, and if your infant is thriving (putting on predicted weight) it is unlikely that your breast milk is creating a problem. Ask a pediatric dermatologist for advice if your infant is not growing appropriately. ...Read more
How long should my 3 month old (exclusively breast fed) go without pooping before it's a cause for concern?
Ask Dr. If 3-4 days: If a baby is eagerly and happily breastfeeding each day, if he has no tummy aches nor bloating, and if his poops are quite soft, then it is ok for him to poop only once every few days. He is digesting all the breastmilk, and using almost all of it to maintain and grow his body (leaving very little solid material to make poop). The water in the milk is absorbed and later urinated out as pee. ...Read more
My 2 month old has an orange film on his tongue has had it for at least 2 weeks what can cause this? He is breast fed as well as pumped and bottle fed
Whole family is sick with the flu. What are the chances of my 2.5 month old breast fed baby getting sick too?
Extremely likely: The seasonal flu is very contagious inside a group of people. Thus, in one family where all are sick, there is almost no way a baby (who requires care by others) will escape it. One can still try, meaning wear masks and wash hands before caring for the baby. ...Read more
My eight month old breast fed baby is slow to eat solids. I started them at five months but she still only eats one or two bites. What do I do?
Be patient: Try to set baby up to watch you/others eat at mealtimes so it sees how others enjoy the event/solids. Babies can be drawn to more mature feeding methods when they decide it looks like fun. Some cultures do not offer solids until after a year and in fact they don't need them. Breast alone is fine. ...Read more
My 6 month old breast fed baby only drinks 5 ounces per bottle. She bottle feeds twice while I work for 8 hours. She is 18 pounds. She was born 8.5 oz?
By weight is fine: She is likely getting much more when nursing directly from the breast. While you might expect her take more from the bottle at this size, she may prefer the breast and baby foods (presuming she's being fed some). As long as she's wetting aces diapers in that 8 hrs, is happy after feeds, don't worry. Offer a cup with water, too- it's time to start learning. ...Read more
Is it normal for my 2 month old breast fed baby to poop for a few days then not for a day or two on a consistant basis?
Yes: As long as stools are soft/mushy/liquidy when the baby does poop, the pattern you describe is perfectly normal. Some babies are just so efficient at digesting their mom's milk that they may not make a lot of waste product (poop), so don't stool as often. Many breast fed babies give little runny skid marks with each feed. Consistency of the poop matters, not frequency. ...Read more
My 5 month old breast fed daughter consistently has liquid bowel movements, she's gaining weight well, are liquid poops distinct from diarrhea?
May not be diarrhea: If a baby is eating, behaving, and growing fine... but has loose poops that can squirt out of her butt, she may be normal, especially if breastfed. Some breastfed babies have loose stools (a bit looser than spaghetti sauce). If she pushes her poop out, it will come out somewhat liquid. If she is very gassy, has smelly poop, or is not growing well, a doctor should evaluate for digestive problems. ...Read more
My Breast fed 3 month old has 2-5 poops a day is this normal? She also only gains 2 oz a week. Could this be causing low weight gain
Breathing feeding: Having 2-5 stools per day for a breast fed infant is normal, a baby can have a bowel movement after each feeding. But gaining 2oz per wk is not enough, she should gain 1/2 to 1 oz per day. What was her birth weright & what is her weight now? What does her pediatrician say? If you don't have enough breast milk you can suppliment with formula to help her gain weight. Good luck & enjoy your baby. ...Read more
Maybe, maybe not: Breast feeding kids can poo a little smear every feeding or a cradle filler once a week. The consistency often varies from runny to soft. The color varies from darker green through yellows to brown depending on the time gut germs have to work on it. If the poo is much more water than particulate, it might be diarrhea, but that is uncommon at this age. If the kid is thriving I would just monitor it. ...Read more
Our breast-fed 1 month old appears to be in so much pain. .. Can what mom eats affect him so negatively?
My two month old spits up every time he eats. He is breast fed only, and gaining fine. What can I do to stop this? And should I be worried?
Doctor to evaluate: If a young, refluxing baby is already taking zantac, (ranitidine) getting burped, being held upright (with nothing pressing on the tummy), the question becomes: is there good growth and no pain? If the baby is happily growing despite spitting every feeding, it may be ok to keep watching with the pediatrician. Sometimes one can try switching to small, frequent bottle feedings to regulate the intake per feeding. ...Read more
My 1 month old baby grunts when she's poops and it seem like its hard for to push but its yellow and water and she is breast fed normal?
Yes.: Normal babies grunt, turn red, and sometimes cry when they poop. They have to learn to use their stomach muscles to push the poop out, just like they have to learn to use their arms and legs. As long as it comes out soft, she's ok. ...Read more
Why does my 5 month old wake up every hour at night while she used to sleep close to 4 hrs then wake up to feed. She is breast fed..
Lots of reason: If baby is used to falling asleep with the breast or any feeding for that matter, then he/she is looking for it when awaken. Usually babies will have a few awake/drowsy states if they hear or see anything, they become more alert. IF you feed to sleep or rock to sleep then baby is looking for that. Try to change your routine to feeding, changing then bedtime. Put baby down to sleep while drowsy ...Read more
My barely 3 month old eats almost 2 1/2 - 4hrs intervals & slept 7 hrs straight. Is this ok & normal? She is breast fed and only eats average 10mins.
What could be causing my breast fed 6 month old to be constipated? Could it be the vitamin d drops I've been giving him or something else?
Doubt the drops a pb: Changes in stooling are often related to changes in diet.Rice cereal & bananas are common constipating agents while juices often loosen stool. Constipation is often a misapplied term. If it is soft but not every day I don't consider it constipation. Rabbit pellets or harder I apply the term. ...Read more
My 1 month old spits up a lot. She either does not spit up at all or she spits up 5-10 times which seems like her entire stomach full. Breast fed.?
Burp, upright: New babies spit alot. The valves that close their stomachs are not well developed, and they are also on liquid diets and eat frequently. Feed slowly, burp frequently and keep upright after feeds. Sometimes altering your diet can be helpful, such as decreasing your dairy products intake. If baby gaining weight and growing well, not to worry. Talk to your ped! Congrats on baby! ...Read more
