Possible: It is possible to get botulism but it is unlikely. Watch out for symptoms 18 - 36hrs after ingestion. Symptoms in infants are lethargy, weakness, poor feeding, weak cry. Constipation is usually the first symptom to occur. There is nothing for you to do now except observation. If your baby seems to be floppy or develops any of the above symptoms, you need to go to the nearest ER.

The: The most important thing to know is what her diet consists of. Is she formula fed, breastfed, or both? Have you recently changed formula? Have you recently started baby cereal? If so, what kind? All of these things are important factors in determining why she is spitting up more. If she is exclusively breastfed, then maybe something in your diet is not agreeing with her. I always start by telling my patients to cut out spicy foods, followed by dairy to see if this helps alleviate the baby's symptoms. If you recently changed formula (different brand or type) this could be the cause. Also positioning after feeding could be an issue, don't lay her down right after a feeding. Digestion chairs are a good option. If you started baby cereal already, it should be rice, and should be diluted with a lot of breast milk or formula. If not it's probably better to wait until the baby is 5-6 months old. In addition more serious issues can cause an increase in spit up, like reflux problems, and in severe cases anatomical abnormalities of the digestive tract/stomach. If the problem persists I suggest you have the baby evaluated by her primary care provider. Good luck.

3 month old baby has been crying more, gassy and has been spitting up a lot. Could it be from something I ate?

3 month old baby has been crying more, gassy and has been spitting up a lot. Could it be from something I ate?

Please see baby's Dr: It's possible that it could be from your diet, but if you haven't changed your diet before your baby's symptoms started, that's less likely. Please see your baby's Dr. For evaluation and diagnosis -- once you know what the problem is, the Dr. Can tell you what will help/

What can you give to a 6 month old baby who is spitting up like crazy and not keeping much down? Can they have chicken broth etc.? He's crying a lot

What can you give to a 6 month old baby who is spitting up like crazy and not keeping much down? Can they have chicken broth etc.? He's crying a lot

If he's spitting up: That much and crying, he should be seen by his pediatrician. Depending on what foods he already eats, chicken broth may or may not be appropriate, but likely is not. In order to treat him properly and give you the best advice, I would recommend consulting with his doctor. If you're a HealthTap Prime patient, you could also start with a consult with one of us there.

I have a 4 month old who spits up a lot (reflux) but has recently started spitting up foamy milk/saliva. Is this something to be concerned about?

I have a 4 month old who spits up a lot (reflux) but has recently started spitting up foamy milk/saliva. Is this something to be concerned about?

Not necessarily: The content of the spit up will vary with the stage of digestion that is interrupted by the reflux event. The appearance will also vary with feeding content. This does not mean things have taken a turn for the worse. I find the regular infant reflux peaks naturally as they begin to roll over (4-5m) & begins to subside when they begin sitting up (6-9m).

My infant is starting to spit up during feelings. Do I continue to feed him and how can I help prevent him spitting up?

My infant is starting to spit up during feelings. Do I continue to feed him and how can I help prevent him spitting up?

Feedings and spittin: Hard answer without knowing your infant's age. But are you "burping" your baby after feedings. Babies take in alot of air using bottles and nipples - burping them will reduce the air bubble. Sometimes spitting up is due to formula issues - changing to a non cow's milk formula may help. Gaviscon drops may also help. If the spitting is getting worse - dicuss this with your doctor.

Why does my 4-month-old baby spit up after every feeding?

Why does my 4-month-old baby spit up after every feeding?

GER: Gastroesophageal reflux is common in infants until their esophageal sphincter develops, and are prone to increased symptoms after feeds, while laying flat, with pressure on the abdomen and with rapid position changes. Common symptoms include spitting up, nasal congestion, fussiness, gagging/coughing and more. GER usually diminishes around 6 months.

Everytime my 4 month old baby drinks his formula, he acts as if something is hurting him on the inside and spits back up. What could be the problems?

Everytime my 4 month old baby drinks his formula, he acts as if something is hurting him on the inside and spits back up. What could be the problems?

GERD: It sounds like gerd (gastro-esophageal reflux disease). This means the sphincter between the esophagus and the stomach doesn't completely close and stomach contents reflux back up the esophagus. Possible treatments include thickened feeds, smaller volume per feed, staying upright after feeding, better burping, and if nothing works, prescription medication may also be an option.

What do you suggest if my two month old baby keeps spitting up is this normal?

What do you suggest if my two month old baby keeps spitting up is this normal?

Is baby growing?: If baby is happy more or less and ready to refeed after sptting it is likely simple reflux. As long as baby wets diapers every 6 hours and is growing, I don't get very concerned. The spitting can increase and peak around 4 mo as baby becomes more active. If baby doesn't wet but every 8hrs or more, you need to have it evaluated.

I have included more citrus into my diet and now my 3 month old baby is spitting up alot, could this be do to that?

I have included more citrus into my diet and now my 3 month old baby is spitting up alot, could this be do to that?

Unlikely: He/she might be eating more at 3 months (that is a typical growth spurt age) and possibly that is why he/she is spitting more. Try to keep elevated after feedings for 45 minutes

My 3 month old baby won't stop crying until I lift him and he has been spitting up??

My 3 month old baby won't stop crying until I lift him and he has been spitting up??

Reflux: It sounds that your baby may have reflux. Your pediatrician will be able to better determine the next course of action. In the meantime, make sure you burp your baby frequently with feeds and keep his head elevated higher than his tummy for at least 30 minutes after each feed. Be sure to check in with his doctor soon.

Mucus: Your child has symptoms of a viral illness. Use saline nose drops for the mucus coming from the nose. For the loose stools stay on a bland diet consisting of rice, bananas, jello, apple sauce, clear soup, dry toast reduce milk and milk products. Us electrolyte replacement fluids to prevent dehydration.

4 month baby spitting up a lot. Formula change before one month. Only formula fed. What are the causes and remedies?

4 month baby spitting up a lot. Formula change before one month. Only formula fed. What are the causes and remedies?

Many possibilities..: There are many reasons for spitting up-most commonly they not of concern BUT this is should be addressed with pediatrician. Is the baby gaining weight well? Possibly overfeeding? Spitting up is reflux BUT that doesn't mean it needs to be medically managed. More history, vital signs, and a physical exam will direct the next step.

Why is my baby spitting up a lot and fussy?

Why is my baby spitting up a lot and fussy?

Depends: Most babies spit up from time to time and cry when hungry, frightened, sleepy, in need of a diaper change, or simply to gain some parental attention. If crying is excessive, high-pitched, or unresponsive to soothing efforts, it may indicate a problem for which your healthcare provider should be consulted. Likewise, if spit-ups are large volume, greenish, or very forceful, seek medical attention.

4 month old baby taking out saliva from her mouth?

4 month old baby taking out saliva from her mouth?

Babies: At 4 months of age, babies tend to drool (saliva comes out of mouth) and they love to put their hands in their mouths. It is normal for them to do this. This will likely continue to occur for several more months - getting worse when they start teething. It's all very normal.

What does it means when my 4 month old baby has water like liquid coming out here mouth?

What does it means when my 4 month old baby has water like liquid coming out here mouth?

Hard to say: This could be drooling, but without more information, I can't say at this age. It would be a god idea to sit down with a pediatrician and talk about when this started, what if anything, makes it better or worse, and if there are any other symptoms associated with this liquid coming from the mouth - sore throat, difficulty breathing, fever; this is an unusual finding in a child this age, see an MD
