4 Month Old Baby Coughing And Sneezing
Other symptoms?: Watch baby closely. If they are feeding well, interacting with mom in a normal fashion, remain without fever, and the cough is not producing anything which looks like pus, and they are not having obvious trouble breathing and their color remains normal you can ride this out. If, however, anything gets worse, if they are irritable and not feeding normally, short of air, etc., get them to doctor. ...Read more
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Humidified air : And nasal saline. Most cold medications have side effects which are dangerous for children under age 4. I like humidified air via a steam bath. Use 1 inch of cold water in the tub then turn shower on hot. Stand in bathroom and allow warmed humidified air to soften secretions. Stand far enough to avoid burns. A few drops of nasal saline with gentle bulb suction also works well. ...Read moreSee 5 more doctor answers

10 month old having cough, cold and fever(37.3-37.5) for 3 days is fussy during feeding times. How can i feed him.
Clear liquids: Make sure to give him lots of clear fluids (water, Pedialyte) to keep him hydrated. You can give it with a bottle, cup or even spoon, if necessary. Don't worry too much if he isn't eating well- the important thing is the fluids. That will help with the fever and loosen his mucous as well. Use bulb and saline drops to suction his nose. Call the doctor if he's not better. ...Read more

My 22 month is running a fever of 100.8, coughing til he vomits, runny and stuffy nose, irritable.
Common cold: This sounds like a typical URI in a child. Might become concerned if they are sleeping excessively, confused or not eating normally. My advice is given with the admonishment that if you have any doubts you should have your baby seen by a pediatrician or your family doctor. Always better safe than sorry. Good luck and hope they are better soon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My 10 month old has a cough, runny nose (green mucus) and eye discharge (occasional). Recently transitioned to formula about 2 weeks ago. Any advice?
No: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants trigger cough.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces rattling. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from baby's environment & this will happen less.No cough syrup!!! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Clear out nose: Newborn infants have to breathe through their noses. So, when their nose is congested with mucus, that mucus needs to be evacuated with a bulb nasal syringe. This typically needs to be done several times a day. If the breathing is still a problem then the infant at this age needs to be seen for evaluation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

OK to use: I would not put the vick's on baby's skin directly, but if you want to put a little in the humidifier or on their jammies, that's ok. The Vicks doesn't cure anything, but may help the congestion a little bit. Be more cautious if your child has asthma - sometimes the strong scent can make their asthma symptoms flare up a bit. Use nose saline drops to clear the nasal congestion at that age. ...Read more
