Yes but: Alternatives are external beam radiation and radiation seeds (brachytherapy). At your age, conservative (watching) isn't advised. All of the therapies can cause urinary incontinence and e.D. - with surgery, they get better over time for most. With radiation, they get worse over time. Surgery is the time honored best of a bad situation. Good luck. ...Read more

Had colonscopy done, notes say small AC lesion near the cecum. Had CT scan, waiting for results. Biopsy was not done. Colonscopy 2013 was clear. Idea?

Polypoid lesion: If on colonoscopy a small lesion noted in the ascending colon not seen previously I suspect a small polypoid growth noted. If base not on a stalk, bx might have been held off for possibility that bx could lead to performation. If small such lesions hard to define on scan. Best approach is to consider repeat colonoscopy in 4-4 mo. and bx performed if lesion larger. ...Read more

Three gastroenterologists have assured me that my abd. Discomfort is functional. Even after CT abd. & chest, colonoscopy, celiac panel, I am anxious.?

"I am anxious": If you've had multiple GI consultations arriving at the same conclusion, then it's time to pursue treatment for your anxiety. Many people with anxiety disorders worry extensively about their physical health. The GI system is richly interconnected with brain and emotions. Treatment for the anxiety issues through appropriate psychotherapy and medications if needed, can provide relief. ...Read more

12 years post op rny, iron 20 & vitamin d at 10. Seeing a new dr that hasn't worked with deficient gastric bypass, is 325ferrous 3x and 2000d 1x okay?

12 years post op rny, iron 20 & vitamin d at 10. Seeing a new dr that hasn't worked with deficient gastric bypass, is 325ferrous 3x and 2000d 1x okay?

Nutrition!: A gastric bypass is a very complex nutrition situation. If your physician has not dealt with it much i would suggest asking for a referral to a nutritionist or a bariatric center. That being said, the dosage of iron is fda approved treatment for iron deficiency, and the vitamin d is a reasonable amount. You have many nutrient levels that should be monitored and carefully watched! ...Read more

Recurrent Idiopathic chronic pancreatitis cure can any pancreatic doctor make online appointment am 19yrs Hope for online appointment or emai l?

No: i am aware of no pancreatic specailist who will do this online. Your problem is very frustrating and if you are not satisfied with your local help, I suggest that you go online and make an appointment for a complete evaluation at the Mayo Clinic. It will be expensive, but I believe that you will be satisfied that all options will have been explored. ...Read more

Endoscopy, colonoscopy done. Polyps removed 2 months ago, all beningn. Last week hgb results 12.8. Confused. What this could be?

Sounds normal: If your concern is a slightly low hemoglobin, 12.8 is still within normal range, and I am not sure you need to be very concerned. There are many benign causes of anemia, not related to the stomach or colon, like thalassemia. Questions for your doctor. What is causing my anemia? Is it iron deficiency? If it is iron deficiency, should I have a capsule endoscopy done since EGD/Colonoscopy normal? ...Read more

Is vacuum assisted breast biopsy more accurate than just core needle biopsy? Both u/s guided.

Accuracy: Both are highly accurate, 97-99%, in experienced hands. Vacuum assisted may provide a better sample for the pathologist, but standard core can make up for it with more samples. One may be preferred over another in certain particular circumstances. ...Read more

So scared I'm going to get cancer, esp. breast ca from 2 CT scans in a month. 1 abd/pelvis and 1 CT pulmonary angiogram to rule out PE? 32 female.

It's ok: Two ct scans in any period of time is well within safe limits of radiation exposure. Remember however, the effects don't diminish over time, so in the future, if you need an imaging study, ask if there's an alternative to something with radiation, or a technique to limit the dose. Hope this helps! ...Read more
