39 weeks pregnant. 1 CM dilated, no contractions. I walk a lot and nothing. I'm really anxious in having my baby. Any tips?

IF u were my pt: Would offer to induce you, induction when done properly is very safe and effective and has prevented hundreds of c-sections in my practice, a large recent study says the safest and best time for the baby to be delivered is 39-40 weeks. Please talk to your OB about getting induced. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

I am 39 weeks pregnante with my first child. I am totally effaced but only one CM dilated. How can I start to dialate quicker?

Regular activity.: It unfortunately takes as long as it takes to go into active labor. You cannot rush these things. Regular activity as tolerated, including sexual intercourse unless prohibited by your physician (or mood), is reasonable advice. Patience is a virtue. Keep all prenatal care appointments. Good luck! ...Read more

39 weeks pregnant At 38 week I was 3 cm dialated and 50% effaced I am getting a cervix sweep tomorrow morning. What's the estimated time for labor?

Roughly about 3 days: Some estimates state that after stripping of membranes (a.k.a. "getting cervix sweep"), about 50-60% of patients go into labor within 72 hours. I'm finding that in my own practice that percentage is really more like 40-50%. Good luck! ...Read more

What is the cause of swollen feet in 39 weeks pregnancy?

What is the cause of swollen feet in 39 weeks pregnancy?

Like any mass...: The baby is a mass growing in your pelvic region, and it causes pressure on some of the blood vessels obstructing the blood flow from your legs back to your heart, thus causing your legs accumulate fluid. Although it largely improves after the pregnancy is over, it may lead to the formation of the varicose veins and some leg swelling to remain in the future. ...Read more

I am pregnant from 39 weeks. How can I enlarge or dilate the cervix for an easier delivery?

I am pregnant from 39 weeks. How can I enlarge or dilate the cervix for an easier delivery?

Unproven techniques.: Some midwives recommend a large bouncing ball to achieve cervical ripening at term. Others do a vigorous cervical examination (stripping of the amniotic membranes) or offer nipple stimulation as an alternative. My approach to all those techniques is the same: unproven benefit and possible fetal risks do not justify using any of those options. Nature will take care of cervical ripening for you. ...Read more

39 weeks pregnant, experiencing contractions 5 minutes apart and lost plug but water is yet to break. Advice on ways to dilate my cervix? Walking etc....

Sex might help: Believe it or not, but semen contains prostaglandins, and this can sometimes cause contractions. Additionally, you may try warm compresses to your breast, followed by nipple stimulation. That being said, if you are contracting every 5 mins, you will hopefully be in labor soon. Call your OB if you are unsure. Best of luck! ...Read more

39 weeks pregnant & being induced on wed. I've been dialated 1cm for almost 3 weeks now &cervix is still thick and baby has not dropped is thiscommon?

Yes it can be: You describe an unfavorable cx at 39 weeks. That, in and of itself, can be fairly common, . The. Question of induction at 39 weeks on an unfavorable cervix is another issue--depends on the indication. If you are unclear of the rationale, you should discuss with your ob. You should be clear about, and in agreement with the plan. ...Read more

How long will my cervix take to dialate more? I'm 37 weeks pregnant and dialated to 2 and cervix is softer and higher. Had last baby at 39 weeks

Unknown: It would be awesome if we could predict exactly when someone would go into labor. Unfortunately we can not. It is great that you are already dilated at 37 weeks. That is great progress. Hopefully you will labor soon but beyond that there is not a way to predict it ...Read more

Hi I'm 39 weeks one day 3 CM dilated cervix is soft the doctor said just needs a little more to be soften all the way but the baby's head still a l?

Still ok: I'm not certain but I think you were saying that the head is still not engaged, i.e. the baby hasn't dropped yet. This does not necessarily mean that there is any problem. There is a small risk that the baby will flip and become breech or that the membranes will rupture and the cord could prolapse but these are small risks and not likely. Best wishes for you and the baby. ...Read more

Ok im 39 weeks pregnant and only 1 in a half CM dilated and 50%effaced can I ask to be induced im so ready for it to be over?

ABSOLUTELY!!!!: It is up to your doctor, if you were my pt I would induce you as the ideal time to deliver is 39-40 weeks according to a large study, I would admit you in the evening, put cervadil in the vagina to ripen the cervix and start Pitocin (oxytocin) and rupture membranes the next morning, induction now can prevent csection from macrosomia, meconium, cord problems which all become more common the longer you go! ...Read more

Yes--it is possible: Being 4cm dilated and 80% effaced is a good place to start an induction all things being equal. It is worth noting that fetal station may also play a role. ...Read more
