Significance of low co2 (17mEq/l) and high anion gap (19mEq/l) in late (37 weeks) pregnancy? All other tests in metabolic panel within normal limits.

Reason for checking: I suppose the answer would vary depending on why it was checked. If there were certain symptoms or problems then the tests need to be analyzed in that context. Simply looking at only these numbers with no context they do not appear particularly abnormal for the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. The doctor who ordered them will be in the best position to interpret them. ...Read more

Unpredictable: There is no way to predict exactly how long it will be until labor, although all of these signs you mention suggest it may not be long. Hello I am 37 weeks and last week my mucus plug came out and I also found out im 3cm dilated. Now im having diarrhea. Is it normal? What does it me

Normal sign: The mucus plug often comes out as the cervix dilates towards the end of pregnancy. This is just a theory but the hormone progesterone slows down the normal peristalsis of the intestinal tract, as well as protecting the uterus from premature contractions. The drop in progesterone is another sign that labor is approaching & may be contributing to your diarrhea. Best wishes! ...Read more
