So I'm 37 weeks &1 CM dilated and halfway effaced is what doctor said last appointment. For the last two days my vagina has felt swollen& sensitive?

We expect this!: Hi Deborah, As the baby moves down in the pelvis which is what is happening slowly and gradually at this point in your pregnancy, the vaginal tissue is filling with fluid. This is due to the pressure the baby's head is placing on the veins of the pelvis. This is normal and will continue until delivery. It does not feel good but is expected. ...Read more

If I am past 37 weeks, 90% effaced and 4 CM dilated can I request pitocin?

If I am past 37 weeks, 90% effaced and 4 CM dilated can I request pitocin?

Have a conversation: Patients and doctors need to have a conversation about goals of what is to be accomplished. Even though 37 weeks is considered full term, there needs to be an indication for initiating labour. At 4cm without contractions, that is still not labour. Pitocin is a drug with potential side effects. The risks and benefits need to always be weighed. ...Read more

I am 37 weeks and 6 days pregnant and I am 1 CM dilated and 70% effaced. I am having a lot of pelvic and abdominal pain. Am i having contractions?

You need evaluation!: Contractions are intermittent pain and you feel fine in between. If you are having constant, significant pelvic and/or abdominal pain, you need immediate evaluation. Not tomorrow, not in 3 hours - now. You could be having bleeding under the placenta (abruption), an infection or other problems. Constant pain is not contractions, so if this pain is bad and constant, get to the l&d or er now. ...Read more

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and i'm 3 CM dialated and 70% effaced does this mean i'm gonna be having my baby soon or could it still be weeks to come ?

Could be anytime!: By that, i mean that you could go into labor tonight - or you might still be pregnant a month from now! certainly, the fact that your cervix is 3 cm dilated and 70% effaced (thinned) is evidence that your body is getting ready. I had one woman who was 5 cm dilated for several weeks! everybody thought that baby was just going to fall out! so do the best you can to be patient (!); time will pass. ...Read more

I'm 37 weeks today and i'm dilated 2-3 cm. Should my doctor induce me already?

I'm 37 weeks today and i'm dilated 2-3 cm. Should my doctor induce me already?

Depends!: Here are my questions: any evidence of fetal distress or low amniotic fluid volume? If not - or unless there are other reasons to induce, many doctors would sit tight and wait for labor to begin. Some babies have immature lungs at 37 weeks so waiting (or assessing lung maturity before induction) may be wise. I have seen women dilated to 5 cm for weeks before labor began! good luck. ...Read more
