Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

I'm 36 weeks and 3 days pregnant have been having sharp shooting pains that last a few seconds and its mostly when he moves my dr said that im dialated 1 1/2 cm what does this mean?

You're getting ready: To deliver! You're in the home stretch, that's for sure. I presume your birthing classes have taught you that the cervix will dilate to 10 cm and thin (efface) considerably before delivery. The pain could simply be a pelvic structure that is being compressed when the baby moves. Review your birthing plan and get ready for the ride of a lifetime! Very good wishes! ...Read more

Are severe back and sharp side pains normal during pregnancy? I am 36 weeks. And I already have an appointment with my ob, just curious.

Most likely yes: Pains in your back and side are usually caused from pressure of the large uterus and swelling of the tissues which causes nerve blockage and therefor pain. If you notice decreased movement, vaginal bleeding, painful urination and fever/chills it could be something else and you should go to labor and delivery immediately! ...Read more

Am 36 weeks pregnant and I have lots of short sharp pains in my pelvic area. Help?

Braxton-Hicks: You are term, so these could be early labor or still be braxton-hicks contractions, small tightenings of the uterus getting it in shape for full blown labor. If the cramps get longer and regular intervals, then may be transitioning into active labor. Many women experience these in the couple of weeks before labor. Congratulations on your soon to be addition to the family! ...Read more

I'm getting sharp pains in my stomach and im 36 weeks pregnant?

I'm getting sharp pains in my stomach and im 36 weeks pregnant?

Just Bear it down: The pains u describe may be because the baby at this stage may be burrowing his head deeper into the pelvic canal, which ends up pushing on nerves - which respond with the sharp 'lightning rod' feeling. The pressure from the baby pressing is also expanding the pelvis, more reason for the pain. Some call this Braxton and Hicks contractions. Cont f/u with OB to make sure u don't have anyother reason ...Read more

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and having strange sharp pain in vagina area?

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and having strange sharp pain in vagina area?

Don't worry: Your uterus is now sufficiently large that it is exerting significant pressure on sensitive pelvic tissue that is not used to having such pressure applied. Moreover, as your baby moves in your womb, the pressure points may change. You can help the situation somewhat with a good maternity belt, which will help support the "load", and by avoiding prolonged standing. ...Read more
