Mucus plug?: Hard to know. I wonder if this might be the mucus plug or "bloody show" which occurs before labor starts. Since brown discharge may be blood, ask your doctor about this, particularly since you are still early. I trust you are not having contractions or other abdominal pain. 35 weeks pregnant with my2nd baby, have had a brown mucus discharge on and off for about 2 weeks now. Midwife not concerned but hasn't stopped.
IF u were my pt: I would do a pelvic exam with vaginal cultures to see if u have an infection and gently examine the cervix to see if it is starting to efface and dilate and do an OB ultrasound to check the baby and placenta and amniotic fluid, no reason to take a chance at 35 weeks and i hope your midwife has good readily available md backup and u are delivering at the hospital. ...Read more

Go to Hospital: This large amount of discharge may be normal, but, it could also be a sign that your water broke or you are dilating and this is the "show" of mucous once the cervix is dilating. Depends...: Towards the end of pregnancy, its quite common to have more discharge. Usually this isn't worrisome. If the discharge is bloody, itches or has a bad odor, you should have it checked out.
