1 cm dilated: If you are 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced then you are at risk for preterm labor. Normally your doctor would give you steroids to help the fetal lungs develop. Swelling: It's normal as you progress in the pregnancy to have this numbness. It's because your body hold onto water and causing swelling and retention. It is definitely normal.
