30 Months Old Speech Delay
I adopted a 9 months old child five months ago, he's now 14 months. He got very little speech training back there, is it normal to face speech delay?
19 month old speaks 15 words and many protowords, understands one step commands and 100 words. Tested, and is socially fine. Speech delay or normal?
Possibly delayed: At 19 months, one would expect a toddler to know 50-75 words, understand up to 200 and be able to follow a two step command. These are only general guidelines, as speech development can vary in certain situations, such as bilingual households, multiple siblings, etc. Excessive pacifier use has been linked to delayed speech development as well. Depends on situation: Most garbled speech in a 3yo has less to do with the tongue than on the manner the kid started using words. If the tip of the tongue can touch the top of the mouth & jut out past the lower teeth, it is unlikely a frenulotomy would be needed. If you contact the "child find " program in your location they should assess your childs speech & advise you on her needs. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
my son is 3 1/2 years old. He has a signifacant speech delay and seems to tune people out. Are these signs of autism?
Son 4 years old and only 32 pounds, eats well, sleeps well, has slightly low ferritin at 10, is slightly hyper and has speech delay, can he have worms?
Could be normal: but he is around the 5th to 10th percentile depending on his age (4-1/2 etc). His stature alone is not concerning but has his growth been normal? It is easy to test for parasites with a stool sample and a blood sample. Normally it is not just the ferritin that is low but the hemoglobin too! This can also be seen with eosinophilia (increased type of blood cells). Easy to test for and treat. ...Read more
My 3 years old has speech delay, she was also diagnosed with enlarged adenoids, can this cause speech delay?
I've never seen it: I've dealt with the issue for three decades & never seen it as a primary cause. If the kid has a sleep disorder related to sleep apnea/tonsil size i could see it causing chronic health problems, but not changing the emergence of speech & language skills in a kid that was ready. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
My 20 months old has a speech delay. I found some info on-line saying that better for him to drink gluten free milk .Gave him almond milk for the day ?
Time for consultatn: A speech delay in a kid should be evaluated by his doc and possibly a hearing specialist and speech pathologist. Those with chronic ear infections often show some delay. If you wish, your doc could order a blood test to seek evidence of a gluten sensitivity, if negative you can skip reading labels and treating a problem that does not exist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Could pandas be responsible for a child's speech delay? My 3 year old relative is still not talking . Although he shows intellegence in many other areas, he only makes consonet-vowel sounds like "ba" very loudly and is upset when his desires are not under
Not an issue: This is a curious disorder of older school age kids and adolescents. At 3, various forms of speech and language delay, verbal apraxia etc are more common and relevant. An evaluation by a developmental pediatrician and speech and language pathologist would give you more information. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
