3 year old took a big swig of his augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) suspension while I was preparing his medicine cup. Could this possibly cause any serious issue?
My 3 year old son is 32pounds and was given amoxicillin 400mg/5ml 100ml to take 5ml twice a day for strep. Take all&finish. Isn't the dosage too much

My 3 year old was given Amoxicillin 400 mg for an ear ache, I have a 7 month old that just started developing an ear ache. Can I give him some?
My 3 year old daughter started amoxicillin at 8:30pm sunday night for strep throat. It is now 11am Tuesday and she still has a fever. Is this normal?
It happens: We know the strep germ is universally sensitive (killed) by amoxicillin, so it is a good drug. You also play catch up to the well established illness, and it can take time to get rid of fever or other symptoms. There is also the possibility that the kid has a co-infection with a virus that adds to the problem and is not influenced by the drug. Give it a little more time. ...Read more

3yr old had strep 2.5mos ago was treated with amoxicilin now is on amoxicilin for scarlet fevr is that safe. He feels better. Will he avoid complictns?
Yes: Scarlet fever is another form of strep a infection & the germ is universally sensitive (killed) by the penicillin drugs (including amoxicillin). Re-use of the medication after 2.5mo does not create problems. Initiation of the meds within 9 days of the first symptoms of strep prevents the secondary risk of rheumatic fever or heart /neurologic issues. Early rx may not interrupt all kidney issues. ...Read more
What is the correct ml dosage of ic amoxicillin 250mg/5ml suspension for a 3yr old that weighs 29lbs?
Check with doctor: Though there are standard dosages for infants and children based on weight regarding antibiotics it is best to check with the prescribing pediatrician since they may not be following those numbers strictly depending upon the situation & severity of infection being treated. It may be an error to simply follow a number based on weight unless you know that you're in step with the doctor's plans. ...Read more

Prune juice fine: You can use 1-2 oz of full strength prune juice 1-2x daily for 2-3 days to get a 3yo kid moving. It's likely the minimal intake has slowed things down. It may take 2-3 days to see the juice work. Increase other fluids & work with it. ...Read more

My 3 yr old twin boys were prescribed augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for what the doctor says in a sinus infection. Is it possible for them to have that at this age?
Yes: Yes, they have sinuses too. They can also get infected. Best wishes. This reminds me of a funny comic drawing of a baby as having only two glands, the giant drool gland in the head and the giant poop gland in their abdomen. Certainly by the age of three the drool gland has receded and there's enough sinus airspace to become problematic :). ...Read more
Hello. We have 4 kids, ages 5, 3, 1.5, and 8weeks. 5 yo and 1.5yo are on Amoxicillin and Cefdiner for ear infections. 3 yo on tobramycin for double pink eye. Now 1.5 yo and 8 week old have same symptoms as 3 yo with pink eye. Is it safe to give them tob
Mgt: Conjunctivitis or pink eye is very contagious. I would recommend that your two month old see your pediatrician. At this age infection may spread more easily to other areas and they also may have different susceptibility. Your 18 month old probably has the same infection and can start the Tobramycin drops, but each child should have their own dispenser. ...Read more
Is 80mg/kg/day amoxicillin too high for a 35lbs 3yo kid to treat strep throat? I read 20-50mg/kg/day is the usual, wondering if mistake made on Rx.
3 yo is on amoxicillin for strep, 5 days now. But she has lesions that look like hand, foot, mouth. Do I keep giving her the antibiotics?
Confirmed strep?: If the strep was confirmed by office testing before treatment, you should finish treatment. If your treatment source looked at the throat and just treated assuming it was strep, call them and discuss your options. A kid can have both illnesses at the same time and finishing the antibiotic would not hurt the course of hfm. ...Read more
3 yo was on augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) for ear inf 3 weeks later got strep throat now takes cefdinir will he always need strong antibiotics now or can take amox again?
Yes: It is common to treat with a broad spectrum med if a kid with strep had a penicillin drug within a month. The idea is that existing germs were not removed so different would likely work better. After a month or two, the germs in/on the body have changed out multiple times and the simple works again. You don't get "resistant" to simple antibiotics as a person, some germs do. ...Read more

That's what your pediatrician is for - their expertise determines what dose your child needs for their specific condition and body weight. ...Read more
Hi, My 5 year old was prescribed to take 11ml of amoxicillin twice a day (400mg/5ml). He is 43 lbs and I feel like that's too much.
Sounds right: A 5 year old who is 43 lbs is about 20 kg. If he/she has an ear infection, sinus infection or pneumonia, the correct dose is 90 mg per kg per day dosed twice a day. 11 ml twice a day sounds correct. If it is not an ear, sinus, or lung infection he/she is being treated for, please ask the physician who prescribed the medication. ...Read more
