Benadryl (diphenhydramine) dose: A safe dose for a 20# 1 year old is 6.25mg, which is a half tsp of the children's liquid. This dose can be given up to 4 times a day (every 6 hours). If needed for more than a couple of days, should consult your doc about other options - is fine short term, but should not be a long term medicine without ok of your pediatrician. ...Read more

Start with 1 mg: I generally start with 1 mg given at 7-8 PM when we expect the pineal gland to increase levels of melatonin in its diurnal variation. High in the evening and low in the morning. Of course this variation is dependent on light exposure as seen in night shift workers where the levels are lower at night . ...Read more

It happens: At that weight the amount shouldn't hurt him.It may well show some side effects.Since it is a combination med it migght make him hyper or groggy depending on his sensitivity to the components. I find little value in these products and don't use them under the age of 6. Far too many kids decide to self medicate at some point trying to mimic what mom gives them to help them "feel better" ...Read more
