3 Protein In Urine
My father's (aged 70 with diabetes) lab tests reveal creatinine of 4.21, bun of 39, serum k is 4, 3+ protein in urine. Can dialysis be avoided?
Urine is the product of the kidneys, which is produced to eliminate the waste products of metabolism, manage body fluid balance, &maintain acid-base balance. The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more
My blood test showed higher level of protein. Was sent for urine test and showed protein in urine. I have had three kidney stones, but none currently.
Protein in urine: Requires follow up with quantification of amount - there are two ways to do this: cup of urine with protein to creatinine ratio mg/mg -- or a 24 hour urine collection. Both are meaningful. Blood tests need interpretation, also. High protein in blood could indicate an evolving disorder that requires characterization with electrophoresis. Urine protein should be characterized with electrophoresis. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Albumin is the major component of urine protein. Small discrete band noted in gamma region, 3% of total urine protein, is this normal?
Hi I have CKD stage 2 with .3 or +1 protein in my urine. I've also been getting fevers for the past 2 years. My hgb is 98. Could these all be related ?
See a doctor: This history is very incomplete, and absent a detailed exam and access to your medical records this would only be a guess. If your HGB is really 98 rather than 9.8 you may have set a new record. If the HGB is low it is probably related to ckd, but would need much more info on your fevers to know what is going on. ...Read more
Creatinine level is 3.9, leukocytes 3-5, erthrocytes 10-12 protein ++ in urine. Could it be my medications?
High creatinine: You should see a nephrologist to get answer to your question. Some medicines, of the advil class, can cause acute renal failure, which reverses once you stop taking them. Due to the presence of protein and blood in your urine, you need a 24 hour urine collection for creatinine clearance and protein. You also need some blood work to see if you have diseases that can cause proteinuria, diabetes? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
If a patient has a GFR in low 40's but only trace protein in urine are they still considered to have stage 3 ckd?
There are some new: Criteria using values other than GFR to diagnose type and severity of kidney damage. But yes, GFR of <50 is criteria of stage iii kidney injury/failure, regardless of presence or absence of proteinuria. The important thing at this stage: aggressively treat and decrease effect of causative factors, as often, the gfr/ kidney failure can be improved. Please talk with your nephrologist (kidney doc). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My lab results show high levels of protein in urine 27 mg, urine creatinine 316.3 mg but levels of protein/creatinine ration 90 mg. What does it mean?
Protein in urine: The results mean that you probably have a lot of protein in your urine. To determine how much, you need to see a nephrologist and have a 24 hour urine collection to assess the amount of protein in your urine as well as your renal function. Depending on the amount of protein in your urine, you may need to have additional blood tests to see if you have any type of glomeulonephritis or diabetes. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
My lab results show high levels of protein in urine 27 mg, urine creatinine 316.3 mg but levels of protein/creatinine ratio 90 mg. What does it mean?
Ur Protein/Cr ratio: The urine protein to urine creatinine ratio is an estimate of the 24hr urine protein. It is less cumbersome and quick. A urine protein to creatinine ratio of 0.15 or less would be consdered normal. For example urine protein of 30 and urine creatinine of 300 would be a upc of 0.1. ...Read more
Is it still possible to have kidney dysfunction with bun of 32 for 3 yr old creatinine of .1 and no protein in urine? Child has edema in face often
Trace of protein: You need to have a 24 h hour urine collection to see how much protein in your urine/day. Protein excretion by a diseased kidney is not constant, rather it is sporadic over 24 hours. That is why a 24 hour collection will tell you if your proteinuria is a problem or not. See your physician and see if you can have that test ordered. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Protein is an expensive commodity for the body. The kidneys are entrusted to return protein back to the body during filtering, and not lose it to the urine. Losses > 150mg/day are indicative of a problem with the filtration mechanism of the kidney. A nephrologist should be consulted ...Read more
