A 9 month old baby has been suffering from recurring fever for three days. When the baby was examined on day 1, theent was clear and the temperature was 101. It was advised that the baby might be teething or may have a virus. Now, the temperature has reac
Always an option: Any kid can come in a day or 2 before their ear infection becomes clear, only to have the problem progress over 8-12 hours. If the kid is eating robustly and playful most of the time, a significant issue is less likely and a virus may be running it's course. If the kid is off his/her activity pattern, drinking has fallen and your parent sense is telling you it's more, get back in to have a recheck. ...Read more
9 month baby suffering 4m fever 4 past 6days. Blood n urine reports r negative reduces for paracetamol n comes again after three hours. Antibiotic given?
Close Observation: Your 9 mos old baby has fever x 6 days; negative urine/blood tests. Infection is a common & serious cause of fever in infancy. The tests tell us whether the cause is bacterial vs. Viral. Bacterial infections require antibiotics whereas viruses are self-limited. Persistent fever is common with viruses. Fever is uncomfortable but is a sign of normal immune response. Follow closely with your doctor. ...Read more
My baby was throwing up every formula bottle he ate for three days and now he is coughing until he throws up and has a stuffy nose. No fever?
Vomiting: This could be associated to a viral syndrome which is very common. However depending on the baby's age if he is in his first 2 months of life and gets fever that requires immediate ed evaluation. In any case the fact that he has been not tolerating anything for 3 days deserves for him to get evaluated asap. In the meantime trying small sips of pedialyte can prevent dehydration. ...Read more
I have urine like diarrhea for almost three days. What should I do. And what foods should I be eating and staying away from caught a 24hr bug from a child. Its now spread like wildfire in the home. I've had a temperature for a day which is gone. Urine lik
Hi. I cannot diagnose your symptoms. I would like to start with looking for clarification, as your first sentence can be interpreted more than one way. If your urine is much like diarrhea would be, than you absolutely need to get seen by a doctor right away. I think however, that what you were describing was diarrhea that has the consistency of urine. There is a lot of viral gastroenteritis going around right now. If the bug going around in jamaica, ny is much like the one circulating in newport, ri - it is a really nasty one. It is a good sign that your fever has resolved.
Viral gastroenteritis causes the peristalsis (motility) of the GI tract to increase. Digested materials are pushed through your large intestine so quickly, that fluids are not reabsorbed from the feces as they normally would be. The spasm of the smooth muscles in your gut can cause pain. If your symptoms do not resolve in a couple more days then you could have a bacterial infection, parasite or a disease of the gut.
It is likely however, to be the bug that you suspected you caught from a child. Work hard on staying hydrated. Water is very important, even if you can only tolerate sipping it. Stay away from acidic beverages and caffiene. Clear beverages may be helpful for 12 to 24 hours. When you add in solids, avoid things like meats, dairy products and fibrous vegetables as well as spicy or highly fatty foods.
One of the dangers of severe diarrhea is dehydration. If you try to stay up on fluids but you end up with a really fast heart beat, you feel dizzy (especially if it worse when getting up); you may be dehydrated. In that case, you may need a trip to the emergency room for intravenous hydration. I hope you feel better soon. ...Read more
Child is on antibiotic, Amoxicillin 7.5ml BID. Has three days left and has started to run fevers again. Had an outer and middle ear infection. Why?
Fever on abx: Fever while on antibiotics can be something as simple as he has contracted a viral illness that is not responsive to antibiotics at all (not that uncommon a week after you have been in a germy doctor office) to something more serious like development of a resistant infection that is not responding to the Amoxicillin. You really need to make a follow-up visit with your doctor in the next day or two ...Read more

My child (4 years) has a fever every night for the last ten days. During the day he is quite active. He eats and drinks less and has a cough.?
My child has a 101.6 fever that won't break, I've tried all day! When's a good time to call the dr?
Short answer....: You should never worry about calling your dr for advice or to express concern. Every pediatrician that I know believes "if you are concerned about your child, I'm concerned about your child". Find a dr you trust and then reach out to them when you need them. You will either learn there is something to be worried about, and treated accordingly, or that there isn't, and u can relax. Both are good! ...Read more
I gave Dolo 650 to my son twice a day in the interval of 6 hrs. He had 100 fever. Is it safe for 10yrs old child?
Dolo 650 is acetaminophen 650 mg. Dose is too high for 10 year old. Temperature of 100 F is low grade fever not requiring medication. Here is an acetaminophen dosage chart based upon weight.

7 year child. Pneumonia heard in all pulmonary fields. Started Azythromicyn. No fever after 24 hrs, but Rales still same in day 3. Start injections?
Pneumonia improving: If the fever has resolved, and overall the patient is feeling better, it would not be completely unusual for the pulmonary findings to lag behind a few days assuming there are no other complicating factors such as asthma. Measurement of respiratory rate and pulse oximetry may shed more light on response. A follow up visit with your physician would be wise. ...Read more
Child has been running a 39deg fever for a day, and overnight it shot up 39.6. No other symptoms she is complaining of. Visiting india. Given panadol (acetaminophen)?
We have a 24m child was dia with tonsillitis and the 3rd day of running a temp around 40 deg, day fine at night start again, given him ponsten? And augmentum, trying to break fever now around 38.9
What is question?: Tonsillitis can be caused by both viruses and bacteria. Viruses can cause a fever up to 5 d or longer and do not respond to Augmentin. Since Temp is low during the day, and rise at night, they do not pose a big risk of dehydration, and fever is used by the body to fight infection. If you child is very uncomfortable, acetaminophen is an alternate med for fever. Return to your doctor if fever >5 ...Read more

Reflux: Babies must breathe through their nose. If I had to bet the baby is having silent acid reflux that is burning her nose. Using 1-2 drops of nonmedicated nasal saline drops for babies after each feeding can help. Are you breastfeeding? Try going on a dairy free diet yourself. On formula? Ask your doctor about switching to soy or elemental formula. For any infant breathing issues call your md. ...Read more

My child has been vomiting once a day, in mornings only. This has been going on for 5 days. There is no headache. The only other symptom is low grade fever of 99. I am fearful of brain tumor. Could it be?
Should my 8 yr old child still have a fever after seeing the dr. 5 days ago and being diagnosed w/ a "virus", not strep. She has been taking ibuprofen as prescribed every 6-8hrs, but the 2nd day after seeing the dr. We added childrens tylenol every 4 hrs
Child 2yr old has cough for a week and had fever for just a day. Green mucus from nose and yellow discharge from eyes now. Should we see dr?
Child with fever, heart racing 2 yr old daughter. Rectal fever 105. Third day with fever. During day she plays, seems fine. Been on steady doses of tylenol and motrim. Currently doing cold presses, popsicles. Should we be at er? Her heart rate was at 150.
Since your child's temp is up around 105f, you should either call her doctor or go to the emergency room.
Fevers for the most part aren't dangerous and are just the body's natural reaction to fighting off an infection. Most of these infections are viral and may be accompanied by runny nose, sore throat, congestion, mild rash, or nothing at all. Since fevers aren't dangerous, we usually treat the fever with Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen just to make the child more comfortable as their body fights the illness.
"red flags" that we look for with fever to indicate something more serious is going on are:
-fevers that last 5 days or more
-fevers persistently above 104f orally or 105f rectally
-a child that acts very sick - very irritable or difficult to wake
-vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to drink, or dehydration
-a purple rash, esp on the legs
-any complaints of pain such as the ear, throat, stomach or a joint
as always, use your judgement. If you think that your child is ill, err on the side of caution and call your child's doctor. ...Read more
Child 8 has headache for third day when moving head and mild sore throat low grade fever on first day, acting normal can it be strep or what is it?
Why?: Generally it is unnecessary to medicate to suppress fever, since fever probably has beneficial effects in fighting the cause. You try to reduce body temperatures only when they are making the person or child patently uncomfortable or it is creating stresses on an already compromised system (not likely in a child), or it reaches levels which are injurious to the central nervous system. ...Read more
