24 Hour Urine Protein Calculation Formula
Urine is the product of the kidneys, which is produced to eliminate the waste products of metabolism, manage body fluid balance, &maintain acid-base balance. The blood is first filtered by the kidneys, and the composition of the resulting fluid is then altered depending on the body's needs. It is composed of mostly water, and breakdown products from blood cells impart ...Read more

Urinalysis with microscopic exam says urine protein 30mg/dl and urine biliruban positive.says"comment:result confirmed" nxt to bili. no blood no dehy?
Need clarification: We need a lot more information on the type of protein, on the cell count, Cass, and other substance seen in the urine. You need to have the urine repeated, best first thing in the morning when your hydration allows a concentrated urine. You also need some blood testing to clarify and possibly further analysis. Your physician may have to send you to a nephrologist. ...Read more
Urine protein to creatinin ratio formula. ? And urine albumin to creatinin ratio formula ? What is difference between uPCR and uACR.
What about it?: 24 hour urine collection for protein is one test for renal disease. To accurately collect the specimen, go pee in the bathroom at a given time in the morning, say 8 am. Then all day pee in the jug given to you and the following morning pee in the jug at 8 am whether you feel like peeing or not. That would ensure accurate 24 hour specimen. ...Read more
Two different things: Clean midstream catch is a term used for obtaining urine that is after the stream has started. It's usually a one time catch, or serial one time catches. The 24 hour urine sample requires you to collect all urine and 24 hours. That's used to determine how much of a substance has been peed out over 24 hours, and dividing it by the milligrams that was collected from what was ingested. ...Read more
My daughter is 12, she had a 24 hour urine sample tested and it showed her proteins to be 195, should be 150, what does this mean?, is this bad?
See below: It depends on her activity during the time that the urine was collected. Vigorous activity increases the protein excreted in urine. That is a very modest increase in the amount of protein in urine. If a blood test of kidney function (serum creatinine) is normal, and she is otherwise normal, I would suggest doing nothing except repeating the test in 6 months. ...Read more
After a 24 hour urine test, testing for preeclamsia my protein level was 621. How serious is this? What this tell you about my state of preeclamsia?
Preeclampsia: The cut-off for protein in urine in pregnancy is 300 mg; 621 mg is a little elevated, but still below one gram, which is 1000 mg, for example. In severe cases several grams of protein can be spilled in urine. To gauge the severity of the preeclampsia or to determine if there is toxemia of pregnancy, other factors are important like blood pressure, liver enzymes, number of platelets. ...Read more
Urinalysis, trace of protein. Creatinine clearence was good, even 24 hour protein, but spot urine had high protein value. Cause?
My pcp did urinalysis for frequent urination then ordered a 24 hour urine collection..Is this likely due 2 too much protein he found in my urine?
The presence of proteinuria (p) is usually found on a urine analysis. To quantify how much p you have, a 24 hour urine collection is done.
At the same time, your renal function also be assessed. If you have significant p, blood work will be ordered to see if a diagnosis of the cause of your p can be found. The causes of proteinuria are varied, with the most common one being diabetes. Good luck. ...Read more
I have high levels of protein in urine from 24 hour urine collection. I have been referred to nephrologist. What can you expect on an initial visit?
Nephrologist visit: You can expect to give your medical history and have a physical examination done by the nephrologist. You will be asked to collect a 24 hour urine collection for creatinine clearance and protein, to see at level your kidneys work and to quantify the amount of protein in your urine/24 hours. A renal ultrasound will be ordered. Depending on the urine results, more blood tests may be ordered. ...Read more

Needs confirmation : It means you have around 2 gm of protien in the urine which is very abnormal. This needs a confirmation by repeating the test and be sure you don't have other reason to explain it like UTI or blood in the urine. If confirmed, then needs comprehensive work up to determine the reason. Diabetes is very common one but there are multiple systemic and/or kidney diseases that could cuase it ...Read more
presence of protein in the urine is usually suggestive of underlying kidney disease. When the kidney filters get damaged the protein from blood tends to leak into the urine and causes further damage.
most common causes are diabetes and high blood pressure.

Is a random urine Protein/creatinine ratio of 405mg/g something to be worried about, or no big deal? Is it only mildy elevated or high?
Depends on context.: Lots of things can cause slight to mild proteinuria. In the context of diabetes this can be a sign of significant kidney problems from the diabetes and an early indicator that the kidneys are being damaged. Or... some contamination from menses. Needs to be put into the entire perspective. ...Read more
Urine creatinine 24hour is 18.5 (7.1-17.7mmol/d) and my urine protein 24hour is 0.14 (<0.15g/d), I have IgM k monocloncal protein in b2 what is this?
Stop worrying: Reference ranges are where most people fall; there's no reason at all to get upset about a trivially high creatinine on a test that is done only to make a ratio with the albumin, which seems quite normal, thanks. My own guess is that your physician is eager to reassure you, and i'd urge you to accept this. There's much good in your life & future -- keep your eyes there. ...Read more
Had lft and my bilirubin is 1.7 and range is 0.2- 1.1 and in my urine protein traces are found, why is this so ?
Big picture: Several percent of humankind run a bilirubin in this range because of gilbert's non-disease; the bilirubin is almost all indirect. If you've had previous chemical profiles and this has been present; it's probably gilbert's, otherwise you'll get a workup, perhaps some meds you are taking. Trace protein in the urine is generally of no concern. ...Read more

Albumin is the major component of urine protein. Small discrete band noted in gamma region, 3% of total urine protein, is this normal?
Mod prot in urine: There are two main components to kidney disease, which predict progression & treatment. One is function or the stage 1-5 with one nl and 5 severe & on or close to dialysis. Stage 2 in G2 is still considered mild & low risk. We next look at a protein called albumin and 23 g/mmol is moderate (>30) severe. In your question, you write CKD G2A3, I can't comment on the G, but 23 g/mmol is A2 - on tx? ...Read more
Urine protein randm: 11.7, urine creatinine randm: 304 high (ref 58-161), protein/creatinine ratio: 38.44. What does tht mean? Do i need more test?
You have proteinuria (p) and the first thing is to have a 24 hour urine collection to see the amount of protein in your urine and to assess your kidney function. Have a renal ultrasound to assess kidneys' size
depending on the p, i would send off blood for aso, anca 2, complement C3 and c4, hiv, hepatitis b antibody to see if a cause could be found for the p, if not a kidney biopsy may be needed. ...Read more
Urine test results: urine blood 3+, urine protein trace. Are these normal, or should I be concerned? Currently being worked up for low h/h (7.2/27)
Follow advice: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, 3+ blood in urine and h/h of 7.2/27 are not normal. Make sure to follow your doctor's advice about tests and treatments. ...Read more
