What is the 24 hour flu?

What is the 24 hour flu?

Good question!: THERE IS NO SUCH THING as the "infamous" 24 Hour Flu (Used to be called 24 hour "grip" due to muscle pain which accompanied it) Probably arose because the WORSE symptoms are usually in the first day or two! The term also was mistaken for FOOD POISONING which generally produces symptoms which are worse in the first 24 hours!
Hope this helps

Are you stil contagious after 24 hours of having the flu or cold?

Are you stil contagious after 24 hours of having the flu or cold?

Yes: After having 24 hours of cold or flu symptoms, a person is still quite contagious. It is hard to tell when a person is not contagious, because that varies from case to case, and because the viruses decrease over a few days (they don't all die at exactly one moment in time). The safer thing to do is to avoid spreading viruses by touching others, or by sneezing or coughing on others, for a week. ...Read more

Child flu b fever start last Tuesday 1/30. Tomorrow morning she will be fever free for 24 hours. Is she still contagious. We have an infant in house.

Maybe not: The flu is considered contagious for a week after the first symptoms appear. Being fever free is nice but not a guarantee. Transfer is usually by saliva or droplets from a cough. With an infant involved I would be cautious. ...Read more

I took dayquil cold and flu this morning. Its afternoon now. Can I take Claritin (loratadine) 24 hour now? I'm 28 and weigh approximately 130lbs

Why?: I think that it is safe but ask your pharmacist first. But dayquil has no antihistamines so you do not get drowsy. Claritin (loratadine) in spite of what the package says can cause drowsiness in some people. Figure what you want to use it for and act. ...Read more

I was sick with a 24 hour stomach flu on fri and now, 3 days later, I feel like I am getting it again. Is this possible?

Yes, possible...: This could occur however with recurrent symptoms I may begin to question the original diagnosis, especially if there are any new or different symptoms. How long are people usually contagious with the flu or a cold (before and after symptoms appear)?

Hard to guess: Nobody really knows when one person stops being contagious with influenza (with or without Tamiflu treatment). One week out from the start of the illness (one can count from the first day of fever, aches, or cough) is safe, unless a person had a more severe illness or still has a lot of cough. In a more severe case, one can wait longer, such as until 3 days after no fever nor excessive cough. ...Read more

When does the flu stop being contagious? After hoe many days from symptoms resolving?

About 7 days: According to the CDC usually you can spread flu about 7 days after you start experiencing symptoms. Longer if you are a child. The CDC does not give the number of day after resolving from the flu. So I would say that if you no longer have the flu and it has been 7 days since the start of the symptoms, you are likely no longer contagious. ...Read more

Not from flu shot: If you get the flu shot, you are getting a dead flu virus. You cannot get the flu from the shot. Thus you are not contagious. The symptoms could also be from a totally different virus that is just a coincidence in timing - this could be contagious. ...Read more
