2 Year Old With Stuffy Nose
What meds can I give a two-year old for stuffy nose/runny nose. And can I give it with a fever reducer at the same time/?
Lots of things: There are a variety of homeopathic meds that are safe and helpful in two year olds with colds. See your local health food store or whole foods. Vicks vapor rub is old, tried and true, and helpful with nasal congestion. Saline drops in the nose followed by suction can help. Yes, you can give fever reducer too. However, if you're looking for cold meds like adults use (nyquil etc.), forget it. ...Read more
2 year old with stuffy nose, and cough that sounds like a bark? No fever, no wheezing, worse at night. How do I make him feel better?
See Doc re: Croup: When a child has a cough that has a "barking" quality, a doc should check them for an illness called Croup. A pediatrician should see your little guy today. Croup can have serious complications at times even requiring hospitalization. Since your child is young, he probably can't tell you how sick he really is. He should be assessed today and monitored closely. Rx treatment will help him get better ...Read more
Be wise and patient: In perspective a cough and runny nose are very likely to be a minor viral upper respiratory infection (a cold). Danger signs would include high fever (over 101), pulling at the ears, very fast or difficult breathing. No need for meds even over the counter products. Maybe temporarily avoid dairy products which make mucous and more congestion. ...Read more

My 2 year old has a stuffy runny nose. Is it safe for her to take children's cold medicine with decongestant now that she is over two years?
Safe or worthwhile ?: Many studies over the past decade have shown no benefit of these preparations to kids under 12. They are actually discouraged for anyone under 6 because of the frequency of ER visits associated with overuse. They used to be prescription meds decades ago but in truth really just give you something to do. ...Read more

I'm a 14-year-old female. I have been sick on and off for a while(mainly stuffy nose and soar throat)past two days I've had chest and upper back pain.
Your symptoms sound like an upper respiratory infection, usually viral. The stuffy nose can cause sore throat/dryness esp when sleeping and not clearing airway. You can use Sudagest 60 mg at night OTC. The chest pain is often from coughing strongly. If needed, you could add Robitussin DM for cough at night so subdue it so your chest/back muscles don't hurt.

2yo constant stuffy nose severity varies snores ENT says no to tonsils/adn to be Removed yet parents have had both removed y wait? Is it from daycare
Consider surgery: If your child is constantly mouth breathing or has pauses in breathing greater than 10-15 consideration should be made to remove his adenoids and if his tonsils are blocking his breathing, then also his tonsils. Daycare may be contributing to a chronic infection of his adenoids. It may be worth a trial of an antibiotic and steroids to see if this will reduce the swelling and help infection. ...Read more
Nasal Congestion: You are limited at that age. The first step is to use some saline drops and a suction bulb syringe. If this child doesn't tolerate suctioning the nose that way, you can try a little saline spray to moisten the nose and clear it out. You can also use an oral decongestant to open the nose up. ...Read more

Doctor can examine: A cold caused by cold viruses is usually left alone, or over-the-counter medications (Tylenol or Motrin for fever, Robitussin DM for cough, etc...) can be used for a few days. The flu caused by influenza viruses is treated by antiviral medication in some cases, unless 3 days have passed since getting sick. A sore throat can be tested to see if it is strep throat. If strep, antibiotics are needed. ...Read more

Effect on lifestyle?: If your kid is playing robustly, resting well at night and the symptoms bother u more than the kid, simple monitoring is ok. Reduce or eliminate exposures to known irritants, smoke/fumes/etc. & a trial of otc allergy med may be in order. Breathing rapidly: Please bring your son to the hospital or to your pediatrician. It is possible that he has pneumonia. If he is coughing or congested, he may have an infection which may need to be treated with antibiotics, I would bring him to medical attention today. ...Read more

Decongestant: If the nasal congestion is the big problem at this point, you can start by trying nasal saline with a neti pot or any of the many over-the-counter saline solutions out there.
