Runny nose: Incredibly common in the young. Tons of mucus production with the tiniest of sinuses and small drainage outlets. Bubble syringe to suck out any mucus, humidifier in the bedroom, no pets in the bedroom, windows closed. If continues, consider speaking with the doctor for additional methods to dry up the childs nose. ...Read more

My 2 years old daughter have symptoms of common cold .Serious nasal congestion, runny nose cough, sneezing , chest congestion. No fever. What 2 do?
Maybe: Just playing the odds, he probably has a cold or a mild case of croup. But if there's a question of his safety in your mind, then better safe than sorry. Here's some basic guidelines i use: if he's having trouble breathing (not just coughing), if he's refusing to drink, not urinating, in pain, inconsolably irritable or barely responsive, he definitely needs to be seen. Beyond that, it's your judgement. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Possible allergies.: If your daughter is having recurrent symptoms with out fevers and signs of acute infection she is most likely having recurrent allergic symptoms. I would rec using saline nose drops for nasal hygiene. Take some loratidine otc, and look for signs of improvement. If nothing changes in 3-4 weeks then talk to your pediatrician. ...Read more

3 yr old w/ low grade fever, runny nose, cough w/yellow mucous, occasional rash on face and buttocks for 2 weeks and now has diarrhea. Urgent care?
Viral syndrome: Your child likely has a viral infection which may develop a secondary bacterial sinusitis or bronchitis. Keep her warm and well hydrated. May use OTC flu symptom relief; however, I would recommend consulting her pediatrician for a definitive evaluation and treatment, especially if symptoms do not improve significantly in 24 hours. ...Read more
My 22 month is running a fever of 100.8, coughing til he vomits, runny and stuffy nose, irritable.
Common cold: This sounds like a typical URI in a child. Might become concerned if they are sleeping excessively, confused or not eating normally. My advice is given with the admonishment that if you have any doubts you should have your baby seen by a pediatrician or your family doctor. Always better safe than sorry. Good luck and hope they are better soon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

1 yr old. Mucus coughs, snotty nose, red eyes with discharge, no fever, sleeplessness. She was diagnosed with allergies. Could it be a cold?
My 2 year old granddaughter has a fever along with watery eyes and a runny nose. What should I give her?
Give love and soup!: You don't actually need to give her anything. If her fever is under 104 and she is drinking ok and not complaining of pain, it is really better to let her run the fever to help fight her infection. With the runny nose, there are not alot of great helpful meds for a 2 y/o. As helpful is humidity, fluids (good ole chicken soup) and the cuddle of someone to let her know you are there for her. ...Read more
My 4 year old lol is getting frequent respiratory infections with runny nose, cough and fever. Her BT shows Relative neutrophilia. please help.
Recurrent URI: If your child is attending daycare that is a very good reason for recurrent URI, her elevated neutrophil count is expected as a response to these infections, make sure she is up to date with her immunization & annual flu vaccine, give her vitamins daily & healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruits & vegitables. IF this problem continues check back with her pediatrician. Good luck. ...Read more
6 yr old started with cough, now sore throat, runny nose and fever. Her eyes started swelling shut. Allergy or something else?
Viral infection: Generally allergy will not cause a fever so probably an upper respiratory infection is the diagnosis. Can be contagious and needs to see a family doctor to make sure the sore throat is not bacterial infection like strep. Eyes can swell with upper respiratory infections. A cold compress over the eyes will provide relief. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system.
