I had a severe sprain and it's been almost two months and my ankle is still sore to the touch and pops every now and then. Is it not getting better?

Look again.: Look at it this way. It has only been two months since you had a severe ankle sprain. There is no apparent swelling. It is sore only to the touch and occasionally there is a popping. Actually, you need to give the ankle a little more time. I just wonder how your ankle was diagnosed and what the post sprain protocols were in the first place. ...Read more

Post injury rehab: Just as important as the treatment or surgery is the rehab of the extremity. The isolation of the part will weaken the muscles and hurt your balance. Several weeks to months of physical therapy often done to help bring you back to normal, and, even then, you'll have to ease back into the sport or activity or risk reinjury of the area(s). ...Read more

Be seen: If it does not improve quickly, it would be wise to be seen, just to make sure what you thought was a simple sprained wrist was not a more serious injury. ...Read more

I sprained my ankle about 2 months ago and its healed but, its still very stiff and sore to stretch what should I do?

I sprained my ankle about 2 months ago and its healed but, its still very stiff and sore to stretch what should I do?

Sore ankle: A sprained ankle many times is worse than breaking a bone because it takes longer for the ligaments around the ankle to heal properly. At two months post ankle injury, the ligaments are still healing and stiffness may occur. You should start with a pt program twice a week, a home stretching program , proper shoe gear and custom made orthoses. ...Read more

My dr tapped the ankle and he heard a rattle after I had a bad sprain, what does that mean? 3 weeks later it is still very sore.

My dr tapped the ankle and he heard a rattle after I had a bad sprain, what does that mean? 3 weeks later it is still very sore.

Rest and elevate: I really don't know what the rattle is, but I am sure that the doctor immobilized it in a brace or a fracture boot after he taped it.. If not, it probably needs to be done. Also, you need to rest it and not exercise it while it is still hurting. The soreness is your body's way of telling you that there is something still wrong. ...Read more

I've had a sprain on my ankle for 2 months now and it is still a little sore. The back is also fatter than that of my other ankle. Is that normal??

I've had a sprain on my ankle for 2 months now and it is still a little sore. The back is also fatter than that of my other ankle. Is that normal??

Probably...but..: The amount of soft tissue damage that occurs in ankle sprains varies from sprain to sprain. Residual swelling and diminishing pain are normal, especially is there is still some instability of the ankle. Make sure that the Achilles tendon itself is not painful and involved in the swelling. To remove all doubt, have the ankle evaluated to test for any unusual findings. ...Read more
