Do to a fall, my 6 week old infant needed a cat scan. What are the side effects of a scan at such a young age? The dr said cancer but how soon?

Do to a fall, my 6 week old infant needed a cat scan. What are the side effects of a scan at such a young age? The dr said cancer but how soon?

Wouldn't worry: There is a tiny increase in cancer risk later in life children who have a bunch of ct scans. We're exposed to unavoidable natural radiation every day, and compared to this, the dose you get from a worthwhile ct scan is trivial. I'm glad junior is okay and has a parent who care so much. ...Read more

Can a 2 month old infant have allergies? Seasonal allergies?

Rarely: Congestion is a normal response of the airway to inhaled dust, fumes, dry heat, pollen, etc. As well as infection. Airway mucous traps debris particles and works to remove them. Vaporizers help thin heavy mucous in some. Avoid cleaning products with heavy odors, perfumes, and smoke and change ac filters often. A particle filter for babys room may also help. Nasal saline as a wash is helpful. ...Read more

My 2 month old weighs 14lbs 9oz what is the right amount of infant tylenol (acetaminophen) I can give him in ml?

Al little young: While infant tylenol (acetaminophen) is not recommended by the manufacturer until 2 years of age it is used and if so the dose in millilitres for the weight you have given is a total of 9 ml in divided doses over 24 hours. That is a very conservative dose so check with the child's pediatrician. Tylenol (acetaminophen) should always be based on weight and not age in children. ...Read more

How can flu in an infant be treated? Hi, my baby 2 month-old has been having flu symptoms for 2 days such as stufy nose and dry coughe?

M.D. visit: At this time of year, it may be due to another viral or bacterial illness. There are certain infection that also can be diagnosed at this age, which actually may have been transmitted earlier in life. Monitor the baby's temperature, and it is advisable to call your physician. If the temperature is elevated, then a work up is indicated.

How long does it take for a fractured rib take to heal on a 1-2 month old infant? And would there be any physical signs such as bruising on the skin?

Red flag: I must know whether this was an injury sustained during birth, and whether the diagnosis is made by a trusted radiologist. A rib fracture in an infant is deeply concerning for inflicted trauma. I would discuss this with a trusted physician / child health care team. Often we do not truly know even those closest to us. For your sake & junior's, address this. ...Read more

What negative side effects would giving an infant reglan (metoclopramide) for 12 months?

DO NOT USE!!: Reglan (metoclopramide) has a Black Box Warning from the FDA. This is only used when a drug poses serious side effects. Reglan (metoclopramide)

Side effects of CT scan for preemie infant include radiation and learning disabilities?

Doubt connection: Any learning disabilities suffered by a premi that survives most likely represent factors that precipitated premature delivery & the need for resuscitation & intensive care, not the ct scan. Is it safe to use betamethasone 0.05% ointment on my 3 month old baby's body for eczema? Is it safe on the face? Any side effects?

No…betamethasone is: High potency steroid & could damage baby's skin as well as interfere with growth if used too much. Hydrocortisone is lower potency; use 0.5 or 1.0% (otc) & the smallest amount that puts a thin film on affected area. Face is very sensitive area; so "less is more" applies. If 0.5% insufficient (after 5-7 days' use) may try 1%. Still no response, consult pediatrician. ...Read more

I have a 2 month old baby as I was playing with him I noticed a big lump on the side of his neck took him to the doctor she said it was calcium build. To me it didn't make any since to me?

Neck muscle bruise: To deliver the shoulder (after the head is out) the neck is often stretched to the point that a bruise occurs in the stretched neck muscle. This often produces a bruise in the muscle & may form a transient calcium deposit from the blood pocket that forms. It usually dissolves over time but may produce a head tilt to one side while it is there. ...Read more
