21mo old in hospital following Gtube placement. 16 hrs postop. O2 baseline is 88.decels 4-5x/hour as low as 70. Sleep apnea? Or result of anesthesia?
GTT is variable: A glu tolerance test is variable, which is 1 reason its not done much. It is hard to compare 2 hr post-glu with 2 hr post-pizza. If your glu were 163 post oral glu, that would be impaired glucose tolerance, which may be what you have. Probably best to focus on what you can do. If fasting glu less than 126 and a1c less than 6.5 you don't have diabetes, yet. Can you improve your exercise and weight? ...Read more
Non diabetic. 4 recent blood tests. First 2 postprandial, last 2 fasting. Post glucose in 70s, fasting in 90s. Why would glucose be higher b4 food?
Morning glucose: Is due to glucose your liver puts out overnite and inbetween meals so that your sugar stays stable during these times. Also, you won't die of low glucose if fasting. After meal sugar is lower due to Insulin your body puts out to cover the meal. Don't worry, all your numbers are excellent and normal. ...Read more

Non diabetic ate 1/2 scooped out bagel with cream cheese and cafe con leche with sugar worked 2 hrs after ate sugar 127 ?
That is normal: 2 hour after eating blood sugar is normal when it is below 140, borderline 140-180 and possibly diabetic over 180. Fasting blood sugar is normal if less that 100, borderline 100-125, and diabetic over 125. Takes 2 or more high readings or one over 200 to diagnose diabetes. ...Read more
Non diabetic . (Fasting BG 121 today). Would cutting carbs to 20-25 per meal be too little? Had GD with last 2 pregnancies. Worried about type 2.
Probably: As you are likely aware gestat DM carries a 30% risk of future DM. With this single fasting blood sugar I can't say much, if it is a pattern it is pre diabetes & needs to be addressed. If overweight, weight loss is the #1 risk factor & diet + low carb/cal diet is good.Starting at that may be OK, but not sustainable. A balanced diet with ~45g-60 carb is doable very low carb diet.Need Eval too. ...Read more
Will drinking 6 ounces of V8 (a lowish GI drink, but has sugar) affect 2 hour, post postprandial readings if consumed 30 minutes before checking?
Of course...: When you drink V8 (or for that matter any juice that is sugar-sweetened) 30 minutes before checking, your reading represents a 30 minute postprandial not a 2 hour postprandial assessment of blood glucose. Did you know V8 Splash is sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup and Sucralose? ...Read more

Fasting gluc (serum) 110 despite home monitor saying 75. No family history, exercise all the time, eat healthy. Puzzled. Type 2 likely in future?
Check further: With a fasting glucose of 110, it is time to get further testing. A 2 hour glucose tolerance test can give you some good information on your status. It would also be a good idea to get on a low carbohydrate/low glycemic food plan and make sure you exercise. Get in for a good evaluation. Good luck! ...Read more

Failure to thrive : I think your GI doctor suggested an upper endoscopy with possible sigmoidoscopy. Eosinophilic gastroenteropathy Is a possible reason which is evaluated by biopsies. If the biopsies are consistent with above then next step is an allergist but make sure you see a pediatric allergist who is familiar with this condition. There are other reasons for failure to thrive as well so follow your GI rec's ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
I'm 34 & T2 diabetic for last 2 years. My Blood sugar is 150- 160 mg/dl 90 mins after food and 120- 130, 2 hrs after food. Is this OK?
Check sugar B4 meals: Your glucose checks should be BEFORE eating rather than after eating most of the time, because the rate of absorption and digestion is so variable that it is hard to judge your treatment based on numbers after eating. Your fasting sugar first thing in the AM should be 80-120, and your sugars before the other meals and at bedtime should be 90-130. Aim toward the low end and eat low glycemic index ...Read more

I was prescribed Levofloxacin and cant have iron within two hours. are there any low iron foods I can eat before taking my medication?
Levofloxacin: It is important to take oral levofloxacin at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after any antacid or mineral supplement containing iron, calcium, zinc, or magnesium since these bind levofloxacin and prevent its absorption into the body. Dietary intake of foods should not significantly alter the uptake of this medication. Hope this helps. ...Read more

8mo is preferring solids. Not just jarred food but pieces to chew. Can I give him soft scrambled eggs? I read conflicting reviews on allergies/safety.
Yes: It is no longer that controversial. Recent studies showed that introducing table food later than the 1st 6 months of life may actually increase the risk of developing food allergies. It appears that it is better to get the baby on regular food (if tolerated) as early as 4 months of age. ...Read more

Is it a concern to limit calorie intake to under 600 a day and want to exercise for nearly two hours, i see my self as fat and not deserving of food?
YES, great concern: I am concerned that you see yourself as "not deserving of food." this, along with the depression you describe under conditions, sounds like you likely have an eating disorder and/or body image problem. What is your height and weight? I have a feeling you may not actually be "fat." even if you are, 600 calories a day is too little to maintain health. A few bouts of diarrhea and cramps over last 30 hours that just turned green. Had a lot of spinach two nights ago. Is it that or food poisoning?
See below: Lots of spinach shouldn't give you diarrhea, unless it wasn't cleaned well, had bacteria and gave you food poisoning as you suggest. Always clean your foods. If you ate out and had the spinach, it could have been touched by unclean hands also leading to a form of food poisoning.
