Possible pregnancy: When a woman misses 2 periods it is possibly pregnancy, so check a pregnancy test. Otherwise likely caused by hormones being off, so a period if coming will be heavier than usual. Thyroid problems, stress, gaining or losing weight can cause a woman to miss a period or two. ...Read more

Why do uterine fibroids cause such horrible pain and heavy periods? I have two small ones near my cervix.

Why do uterine fibroids cause such horrible pain and heavy periods? I have two small ones near my cervix.

Depends on location: It sounds like these are submucous fibroids, meaning they are inside the uterine cavity. Submucous fibroids don't have to be very buff to cause problems like heavy bleeding. The cramps tend to be worse because the uterus is contracting to try and get rid of them, but of course it can't since they are attached. The can be resected using Hysteroscopy as an outpatient. ...Read more

Prolong heavy periods severe pain "27 year old mother of five last delivery 12 months ago severe stomach cramping bloating iregular prolonged heavy periods 2 weeks on 1 week off pain can be very severe at times

You : You need to see your gynecologist. This is not normal and can mean a variety of things. You could have uterine fibroids (benign tumors of the uterus), endometrial hyperplasia (thickening of the uterine wall) pregnancy also needs to be ruled out. If you recently started or changed birth control that could be a factor. You need to see your doctor for a complete history and physical, and diagnostic testing (pap smear if due, possibly pelvic ultrasound, and/or endometrial biopsy). Best of luck. ...Read more

For the past 1.5 years I've had extremely heavy periods. (Not normal for me) and now the last 3 months I've had a period for one day (also not normal)?

Recommend GYN eval.: The main reason for light periods is change in hormone levels. Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: thyroid problems, eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives, perimenopause & implantation bleeding in early pregnancy which rarely occurs. ...Read more

Likely not serious: If it's been 2 months, highly unlikely there's anythign too worrisome going on. If it persists next month you should see a doctor, get an exam, and he/she will help figure it out. ...Read more

Can a girl be pregnant if she has had a period twice? She has had her period twice in the past two months on during the times she was supposed to have her period, and they were heavy periods.

Having : Having normal, regular periods makes pregnancy unlikely, but not impossible. If there is any doubt, you might as well check with a test. As doctors, anytime a fertile, sexually active woman has an abnormally light or missed period, the first thing we do is rule out pregnancy. You can either take another home pregnancy test as long as it has been 5- 6 weeks since your last normal period, or you can go see your doctor and they can test you. A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period, so another negative test would help confirm that you are not pregnant. A blood test can tell if you are pregnant as soon as 7 days after conception and a doctor's urine pregnancy test can tell if you are pregnant around when you next period should come. ...Read more
