Chest xray?: Did you have a chest x-ray? It would make sense that among all the other tests you mentioned they would have done a chest xray to r/o a pneumothorax or a pneumonia. It is possible this is reflux, so you can try some antacid like Tums (calcium carbonate) to see if it helps. Another possiblility is costochondritis, an inflammation of the joints between the ribs and the breast bone. Usually ibuprofen helps with that ...Read more

Not likely serious: You are young! It is not likely that you have anything serious or life threatening based on what you wrote. Nevertheless with those symptoms it would be a very good idea to see a doctor for a thorough history and exam! They can listen to your heart to check for murmurs. Note the heart rhythm and rate. Check your blood pressure. Maybe do an ekg. Make sure your lungs are clear, etc. ...Read more

I have chest pain I feel like my heart races fast then slow im 18 went to doctor and only gave me ibuprofen for swelling of chest...Would that help? :/

Atrial fibrillation: Heart rate that speeds up & slows down w/o good reason (like exercise & rest) is suggestive of atrial fibrillation. Other heart rhythm problems can cause this too. First, stop drinking anything w/caffeine eg coffee, cola, tea, etc. Also stop taking anything w/stimulant effect whether prescription, otc or illegal. If that's not enough, get an ekg plus either holter monitor or event monitor. ...Read more

18 years old. Swollen lymph nodes that haven't grown in size. But I have a cough and difficulty swallowing followed with chest pains. Is this lymphoma?

Correlated or not?: It is hard to know, especially without doing a physical exam and taking a complete medical history, whether or not the long standing enlarged lymph nodes (how big?) and your new symptoms are related. If you have not been to a physician, I would recommend going. It is reassuring the nodes have been stable for a year. Further testing, if warranted, can be done to figure out what is going on. ...Read more

I often experience chest pain right in the middle of my chest. What could this be? The chest pain does lasts a few seconds and is quite sharp. It happens every few days, sometimes more than once a day. I am a 26 year old female and I am not overweight and

There: There are many different reasons why you might be experiencing chest pains. One of the most worrisome reasons patients experience chest pains is that they have a blockage in one or more of their heart arteries. Atherosclerosis is a disease of the blood vessel where plaque or fatty deposits grow inside the blood vessels and restrict blood flow to the heart muscle. This typically creates a presure or burning or tightness in the chest area which could radiate to the left shoulder or arm, neck, or jaw. Often it worsens with exertion and improves with rest. The most common risk factors leading to these blockages include smoking, diabetes, a close family member with this disease, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure.

If you are 26, of normal weight, a non-smoker, without diabetes or high cholesterol and your parents do not have coronary artery disease, it is quite unlikely that you have this problem.

Much more likely this is due to some other reason. Stress can cause many symptoms in our bodies such as head aches, upset stomach, and anxious feelings. Stress can also cause chest pains.

If your symptoms continue or worsen, I would urge you to make contact with your doctor for an appointment to discuss this further. ...Read more
