Had my methotrexate injection 7 weeks ago for an ectopic pregnancy (about 3 weeks along). Still getting pos. home pregnancy tests. What's going on?

Should be tracked: After Methotrexate it is important that your BHCG levels be tracked all the way down to zero. Usually this is done weekly. This is done to make sure that Methotrexate worked to treat the ectopic pregnancy. Also since it has been 7 weeks are you sure that this is not a new pregnancy? It is possible that you are pregnant again. See an Obgyn for a BHCG blood test. ...Read more

Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

At fertility clinic doing an transvaginal ultrasound tmrw at 6 weeks 2 days for dating and heartbeat....is it to early for heartbeat.

Probably: By the fifth week of the gestation period, the heart starts beating and divides into chambers. So you can hear a baby’s heartbeat at six week gestation. Dr looks out for more than just the heartbeat. He searches for the gestational sac and checks the size of the baby. These measurements will determine the age of the fetus ...Read more

Had a medical abortion at 14 weeks. 3 weeks after , 2 hpt were negative. However, i feel "gassy" stomach. Baby kicking? Possible continued preg?

Shouldn't be: A termination that late may result in retained products (placenta) and that might cause cramping and bleeding, but its more likely the sensation you are feeling is the gas. Bowel gas can feel like butterfly flicking like early pregnancy. Try some gas X or simethicone. ...Read more

M 16 weeks 3 days 1st time pregnant .Should i go for altrasound for baby sex determination? But my belly still not showing.

M 16 weeks 3 days 1st time pregnant .Should i go for altrasound for baby sex determination? But my belly still not showing.

Better Reason!: An ultrasound is not primarily done for sex determination. It should be done to determine how far along the pregnancy is and to verify that the fetus appears normal. I understand that in india sex determination is illegal since parents were selectively aborting female fetuses. Is this practice common in pakistan? ...Read more

Had a medical abortion at 14 weeks. 3 weeks after , 2 hpt were negative. However, i feel "gassy" in my stomach. Baby kicking? Continuing pregnancy?

1st, why RU gassy?: Feeling gassy may reflect malabsorption of food (like gluten, lactose), intake of poorly digested food, or choosing foods known to promote gas (beans, fizzy drinks). Sometimes its more complicated--a stomach emptying too slowly, bacterial overgrowth syndrome, delayed intestinal function, partial obstruction from any cause, infection, rectum problems, pelvic pathology outside the gut, maybe stress. ...Read more

32 weeks preg, baby is measuring 3 weeks behind, doc is waiting 2 weeks for us, I am worried bc I am dilated to 2, 50% effaced, should I ask for one sooner?

Follow Doctor advice: I cannot think what doing an earlier ultrasound will tell you or give you. If there is no medical reason for such an ultrasound i would defer to the judgement of the physician caring for you. ...Read more

I'm 11 weeks gestation midwife finds one baby two sacs i didn't have a full bladder. Return in 2 weeks for repeat i dr can twin still appear, concerned.?

Not likely: Unfortunately not likely given the gestational age. The only possibility would be if the baby she saw was much earlier in gestation (for example if your cycles are irregular and you are only 6 weeks gestation versus 11 weeks by your period), then perhaps something would be seen on followup. But if you are truly 11 weeks, then she should be able to see 2 babies at that point. ...Read more

16 weeks pregnant gallbladder disease symptoms. Negative abdominal ultrasound. Thinking still gallbladder. Risks in waiting after birth to treat/test?

16 weeks pregnant gallbladder disease symptoms. Negative abdominal ultrasound. Thinking still gallbladder. Risks in waiting after birth to treat/test?

Unlikely : The ultrasound is very sensitive at picking up gallstones, on rare occasions, it may be wrong, and other imaging is necessary. However in your case, it may be due to other causes, such as appendicitis, kidney infection, gastritis, or reflux. You may need additional testing if the symptoms worsen, in that case, see your obstetrician if a GI consult is warranted. ...Read more

D&C 15 days ago for retained placental tissie after birth. Still crampy and light bleeding. Doc refuses to do another Ultrasound. Normal??? Im nervous

Follow up care: Close follow up should be done since you experienced and uncommon complication --retained placental tissue requiring a D and C. Repeating the sonogram is not typically needed. A exam and physician assessment of the bleeding is where I would start. ...Read more

No need to worry: The early ultrasound exam of the embryo although fairly accurate still can measure plus or minus a few days. These measurements are small and by just placing the caliber a few tenth of a millimeter more or less will give one more or less day. The simple rule is first trimester scans can be are plus or minus 1 week off, second trimester plus or minus 2 weeks and third plus or minus 3 weeks. ...Read more

I am 12 weeks 3 days preg.Had 2 hospital visits and found heart beat. Its 175 at 10 weeks.Today found a tiny tissue like.Scared.Misc possible?

Possible: Sad fact that 20% of all pregnancies measured from early conception miscarry. Tell your doctor what happened, avoid intercourse until you talk to dr. Or have your dr examine you. Save the tissue for the doctor to look at. Take it easy, no strenuous activity. Unfortunately the main course of action is wait and see. But tell your doctor, keep him or her informed, that is what they want you to do. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more
