How do I stop a 4 year old child from sucking her thumb?

How do I stop a 4 year old child from sucking her thumb?

Options.: See when she does it. Is it when she feels scared, tired or bored? Address the feeling. Also you may start by setting expectations on where she is allowed to do it, thus reducing the "thumb time", other options are having her look in a mirror when she does it, to see if she likes what she sees. And lastly you can try some commercially available nail polishes that taste icky. DonĀ“t overwhelm her. ...Read more

You may need help physically and psychologically if habit persists past beginning of eruption of the permanent teeth. Again, be gentle. ...Read more

Bedtime: I try to narrow the thumb sucking to nap or bedtime. I tell the child it is okay to suck the thumb in bed. Medicines, bandages and yelling do not seem to work well. ...Read more

My boyfriend is 29 years old I found him sucking his thumb is that normal or gay? He was doing it when he was sleep

Adult thumb sucking: It is not homosexual. If it happens while he is asleep then there is nothing he can do about it. It probably reflects some of the same needs as you find in childhood thumb-sucking -- a way to calm yourself or feel emotionally more secure. If it has not been enough to make his teeth stick out, it is probably not harmful. I would just tell him without judging that you observed this & ask if he knew. ...Read more
