13 Year Old Breastfeeding
Is it safe to use chaga mushroom while still breastfeeding? My child is over a year and a half old.
Breastfeeding is providing nutrition to an infant using breat milk either directly by infant latching and sucking on the nipple or by feeding via bottle with expressed breast milk (when baby has difficulty suckling). Breast milk is the best milk for any baby but ...Read more
Depends on situation: If you both enjoy the encounter it is fine, but be aware at this point it is more nurture than nutrition. Some kids need more nurturing & this is a simple way to fill the need. If, however, you have to chase the child down to feed, or they squirm to get off after a fee minutes, they are signaling their desire to move on. Sometimes we have to let them leave the nest. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Why: Weaning is a natural point of transition for infants/children.Like learning to self settle/sleep alone, toilet train, separate and go to school, it is part of growing up. There are no nutritional superiorities at that age, when they have a collection of table foods diluting the effects. If the kid needs comforting/nurturing i would look to a different way to accomplish that goal. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I am looking for some healthful & effective suggestions for how to help my breastfeeding 1-year-old adjust to cows milk? So far she doesn't like it!
Necessity is the : mother of invention. Offer a maximum of 16-21 oz./day of whole milk & milk products, the milk from an open-mouth cup with meals, if she no lactose intolerance or milk protein allergy. . Sipping milk or juice off & on from a Sippy cup leads to dental caries. It's time for her 1st visit to a periodontist. You can wean or not, just don't give bottles. She will be harder to wean at 15 mos. or >. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
MY todler is over 1 year old and I am still breastfeeding a couple times a day. Would it be safe if I took .5mg of xanax (alprazolam)?
Is not safe: 0.5mg of Alprazolam or Xanax (alprazolam) is not too much. Thec risc of breast feeding it wiill depend if it is a one time use or a chronic treatment?. There will be traces of it in the breast milk which the baby would ingest. Again if it's a one time it will be negligible, of no consequences but if you planning on chronic xanax (alprazolam) use, better stop breast feeding now. One year is a good run anyway. ...Read more
My son is 1 year and 1 week old. Can i give him soy or almond milk and tofu now? I'm also still breastfeeding him. Thank you.
If you wish. Know : That he can develop allergies to soy & nuts, the same as to cow's milk. Ask your pediatrician about calcium supplements if he doesn't have 16-21 oz. Whole milk & milk products/day. Juice & almond milk aren't necessary; limit to 4-6 oz/day . He can wean to a double-handled open-mouthed cup now. Age at weaning is a personal decision. Know that it's harder to convince a toddler to wean @ 15 mos. Or >. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What are effects of breastfeeding a 2 year old with teeth. I took my 24 month old to dentist. He looked. 1/2 minute. Said she needs 6 crowns..Please h?
Are you brushing?: Breast milk on its own does not cause tooth decay. It does contain milk sugars, but also lactoferrin, which kills the bacteria that cause tooth decay. However, breast milk does contribute to plaque or biofilm formation. When you add other foods into the mix, they will stick to the biofilm/plaque and attract cavity causing bacteria. Regardless, if you feel uncomfortable, get a second opinion. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Breastfeeding a 1 year old, eats solids and drinks milk but still nursing, mainly for pacification. Should i wing or wait till she is ready?
Joint decision: The nutrition & nurturing benefits of breast feeding are well accepted, with some drop off in the nutrition aspect after kids are well into solids @ 8m.The nurturing aspect varies with the kid. If baby makes short work of the feed, 10min/side & wiggles to get down they are showing they don't value the nurturing as much as others. These kids can be weaned as you desire. Those that linger need longer. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
