Sonogram (Definition)

An ultraound, also known as a sonogram, is a painless and relatively inexpensive imaging test that utilizes sound waves instead of ionizing radiation. There are no side effects. Ultrasound can give us two-dimensional, and in some applications three-dimensional, images of structures and organs in virtually any part of the body. In addition to diagnostic uses, such as evaluating abnormalities in the abdomen, pelvis, and breast, ultrasounds are commonly used to guide needle and catheter placement in a variety of surgical ...Read more

Could a 13 week ultrasound be mistaken for a 9 week?

Could a 13 week ultrasound be mistaken for a 9 week?

Unlikely: 1st trimester ultrasound has margin of error of 5-7 days for due date. If due date by lmp is 9/22/13 and us due date is 9/27/13, they are in agreement, and typically lmp is used. However if ultrasound due date is different by over 7 days, i.e. 10/8/13, then the ultrasound dating would be used. The ultrasound can be off by up to 2 weeks by second trimester, and 3 weeks by 3rd. ...Read more

Can a 13 week ultrasound mistakenly put me at 9 weeks?

Can a 13 week ultrasound mistakenly put me at 9 weeks?

Unlikely: A 13 week ultrasound is very accurate if done by a well-trained doc or tech. Growth abnormalities usually don't surface until later in the pregnancy & the difference between a 9 and 13 weeks fetus is easy to see. If you notice the 4 week discrepancy, it is much more likely that an ovulatory cycle was missed. ...Read more

Can a 13 week ultrasound ever be mistaken for a 9 week ultrasound?

Can a 13 week ultrasound ever be mistaken for a 9 week ultrasound?

Shouldn't happen: If i understand your question, a 13 week ultrasound of a fetus should be very different from a 9 week ultrasound. The crown-rump length of the fetal pole should be much longer, and fetal anatomy should start to be measurable and quantified. If there is a discrepancy between the date of the last menstrual period and the ultrasound dating of the fetus, the ultrasound should be more accurate. ...Read more

Could sex on 12/23 & 12/24 give me an EDD of 10/10 ( based on 13 week ultrasound) or is it more likely sex on 1/17 & 1/18 did? Can't remember lmp.

1/17/14: So if your EDD is 10/10/14 based on a 13 week ultrasound, that should be pretty accurate as first trimester scans are the best for dating. Working back from that date then you most likely conceived on 1/17/14 +/- a day or two. ...Read more

Nuchal Translucency : The nt is used to determine the baby's risk of having down's syndrome. You will have to ask the ultrasonographer what level of risk is associated this this nt value. Keep this in mind when you get your result: most babies, even those who are determined to be high risk for down's from the nt test, are born completely normal. ...Read more

19weeks pregnant. Been bleeding bright red to brown off and on since 13 weeks. Ultrasounds ay baby is good. Why am I having this problem?

Hard to know: You may be having a chronic separation of the placenta that seals over, bleeds, re-seals and so on. Perhaps it is from your cervix. There can be other causes. Keep in close contact with your ob. If continues, maybe you need consultation with a high risk pregnancy doctor if available. ...Read more
